HIN number
 

I found a good surveyor from anotherOSO member. Thanks.

I need to show him the HIN number, but the transom had work on it a long time ago and the number was glassed over and not put back on. I understand there is a 2nd location somewhere, but don't know where to look and have feelers out all over to find out.

It's my 42 Fountain raceboat Rio Roses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a very general statement for where they are oft found:
 

The bow in the area where an anchor locker might be in what might be called the v-berth area near the cap joint.

On either side (but more likely on the stern/starboard side) of the fore most bulkhead.

The main salon bulkhead, fore/starboard side. Generally near the top, underside of the helm area.

Engine compartment fore bulkhead stern/starboard side.

Starboard side stringer top.

Your boat may not have a second ID, AND if it does it might be elsewhere than these locations, but these are the most common.

Only slightly off subject; on many of the older wooden boats like Lyman, each part had the serial number stamped into it. Granted, not all the stringers and ribs, but all the floor boards, seat lids and similar items.

I had a SportCraft with IDs in the anchor locker, under the helm on the salon bulkhead and the fore bulkhead of the engine bay and the normal transom location while a friend's very similar SC on had it in the anchor locker and the transom only.

It seems, again a very general statement, the secondary IDs, other then in the anchor area, are seldom on the hull itself, but on a bulkhead.

But, if not, then look around the shoppe. Look in one of those secret places and see if you don't find a small aluminum plate with the serial number stamped on it and then remember it was on the bottom of a lazarette lid!

Well. that certainly gives me some ideas on where to look, lol......

A friend reminds me they are sometimes found on the electrical power panel on a very simple sticker. Whether this is true for a race boat, only looking will let you know. His is on a 34' Carver aft cabin! But here again, you might find that foil sticker which looks like it was printed on a typewriter in your tool box from where you removed it to preserve it when you located it long ago!

Might suggest you look in the cabinet where you keep your 3/8" metal stamp set for the other aluminum strip.

If he is a licensed surveyor have HIM call Fountain to get the location. They may give it to him.

Not that you don't have other things to do !!!
