Wouldn't a boat like that be required to have an AIS system? Shouldn't they be able to do some type of search to locate the boat? just to make sure I'm on the same page, they didn't find any people or the boat right?

What kind of A**hole calls in a hoax like this? Check the news real footage of the crowd at the dock where the CG was set up for casualties. I bet the caller was there in the crowd taking pics so he could rub one off later watching the caos he caused.

When I did search on the AIS system Blind Date is currently in the Med off Spain. I suppose there could be others by that name.

Don't think that's the same boat. Someone Posted pics on THT and it has a white hull. There is probably a few boats with that name. But what do I know...

Here is the distress call audio :
What worries me is that this might have been a trial run to see what assets would respond and where they came from for a possible future mission .... :( The voice on this audio is well rehearsed .... He states the entire name of the "Gateway National Recreational Area of Sandy Hook uh Point I believe it was ?" http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...96209620-4.jpg |
I hope they nail him.

Right on Sharkey. I can hear my c-rats ham slices can moving on the wire. After many years in Europe with Uncle Sugar sound like a Euro voice with a few years working on American not English. Way to calm, no devation from his well read script. Not bad good enough to get the locals to show their assets. What do you think Sharkey? Or have I spent to much time Tdy in the Cafes in Amsterdam?

Sounds midwestern to me, maybe even midwest Canadian.
They have now been able to determine the signal was from land.
Listen to other maydays on YOUTUBE and the conversations between rescue and endangered crafts. Calm demeanor is what is very common. Prime example and well worth watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeIX0VnUMKo When I lived on Lake Ontario, false calls were somewhat common. The Fort Drum, USCG, county, state and town assets were mustered. Often seemed to happen near the state camp grounds and often in the late afternoon/early evening hours. OH, yes, and not long after the bars closed too! |
