27' Cougar Cat

Does anyone know anything about these? Good/bad/ugly? How are they in rough water? Anything other than old boat issues to look out for?

Not sure but I remember those being wooden? Still though, very cool in my book.

They weren't wood, they are Glass or Kevlar. Chris Hodges did most of the design on it. They Fly over chop just like the little F1 cats (Thats what Chris Hodges was famous for) I believe two lighter merc motors would do that thing some good, Steve Curtis & Peter Currington (CougarM on here) Raced one with 3 2.4 mercs. The price on that one is Okay, but them motors are old and hard to get parts for, or to find someone to work on them....Boat is a Screamer though..

Those motors on the cougar are super cool but honestly ticking time bombs. Parts are tough to find as well. The 2.4's on that shadow are real finicky though :angry-smiley-038:
they will DEFINITELY go at some point.

I had one like that ,first with 4 x 2,4EFI,s ,later with 3 x 2,4EFI,s , this is a great rough water boat ,very tough build ,can handle massive water with no problem.

Ok, good to know. I know the Evinrude V-8s weren't the greatest. We're going to take a look at it this week and see what we think. I assume with a pair of 2.4s you'd probably be looking at around 80? We've always been V-bottom guys, so we don't know a lot about running cats in the rough. It's good to hear that this is a well-built boat.

The problem with the 'rude v8's is really the lower ends and bouncing them off the rev limiter. 5700+ rpm means trouble with them. The parts and someone too work on them, just make it frustrating when one does break. I like that cat in Long Island. Maybe I'll beat you too it! :lolhit:
