Default water pick ups...

I need some leads on some nice water pick ups for my 18ft donzi classic and if anyone uses one I would like to know where would be a good placement of a water pick up.

I got a price of 99 bucks for one from some performance marine shop.

I was thinking maybe I could make one or find one cheaper then $90.

anyone got any leads for me?

the reason I want to use a water pick up is because I suspect I have a air leak in my volvo drive and would rather upgrade then fix my 1971 water pick up in my volvo 250.

are there any draw backs to a stand alone water pick up?

thanks in advanced....

*edit*
if anyone knows of any places please leave the phone number...... thanks

2 days and counting for july 4th.......
drive is rebuilt and I need to paint the hull(petit trinidad sr) and try to suck out some debris from the tank(I know I know) then hope she fires up...

Did you ever think of the GPSspedo from Gaffrig/Livorsi. cost quite a bit but definetly worth it.

Or you could try Faria Instruments for one that might be cheaper than $100 or for really cheap, go to Boaters world/West/Boat US and pickup a teleflex for under 50.

My water pickups are mounted to the transom about 2 inches higher than the bottom. They are basically a 90 degree stainless elbow with a mounting flange.

The outer portion exends down to the bottom, and are about 3/4 inches in diameter. They have split pvc pipe hose clamped on, cut diagonally on the bottom, and extending down about 1 inch below the hull. This PVC will break away if something hits it...

That price of 90 bucks is about right.
Almost everthing made for boating is priced three times higher than necessary.
Shop around maby you'll find something.
