I was envisioning a near miss and cranking the wheel too hard to avoid a collision, which caused the spin. In the video it looks like they spun way after going around that boat.
It is hard to judge the speed in the video (or even the side to side distance of the boats). I'd be surprised if that was 190 mph, but one thing is for sure... That glass-like water is what kept this as nothing more than a sunny side up spin. Had the water been much rougher the boat would have caught and flipped/rolled violently. Glad to see everyone is okay, that could have been a really bad scene! Hopefully it was a learning experience too. :) |
Looks like My Way swung out wide to avoid the pleasure cruiser, then turned in too sharp to catch Aqua and hooked it. Looks like Aqua went on this side (video angle) of the cruiser.

Bing bing bing we have a winner, that's exactly how it was explained to me

The sport cruiser is not moving not on plane and no wake.
The Mystic went from speed to 0 mph in 2-3 seconds. |

BTW, I did not notice a PWC anywhere in that video as was reported to be the cause of the accident in the other thread.
That video shows exactly what I was told at the bay that weekend, MyWay on the outside, AM on the inside, turn at speed. Also a chance he got into the wake from AM while turning, which is not going to be seen from that distance. The water looks flat, but that region must be the worst "boat chop" area in the country. The port sponson lifts right before the spin |
He is lucky he did not go into an uncontrolled spin heading for the trees and land which he was fairly close.

What was the condition of the rudder after te spin? I don't think that even the rudder king, B.L. could make one to stand that spin.....
