Anybody boat on Lake Murray SC ??

I have been offered a job in Columbia SC and wanted to know what kinds/sizes of boats run on Lake Murray. It looks like a big lake, similar to LOTO with coves etc. See my avatar for my rig.

Thanks

I have been boating on Lake Murray for 27 years, lake is well marked, 14 miles wide, 41 miles long. You will not see the type of water that I have heard LOTo has. We recently had a poker run with a good turnout, do a search for pics. The Columbia area is very nice! Short ride to mountains or beach, cost of living is low. You will love the weather! Let me know if you have any questions.

I lived there for almost 15 years, and while I had smaller boats at the time, its an awesome lake. I would LOVE to have my boat there now.

As Brad mentioned, its pretty well marked, and there are a lot of places to hang out with crowds, or to get away from everyone.

Depending on your price range, and how far out you want to live, you can find nice places with a dock and a lift and boat ramp within easy driving to Columbia. I used to get home on a Friday and not get back in the car until Monday when heading back to work. There are several bars/restaurants on the lake, and most of my friends lived on it as well, so there was no need to get in the car until time to go back to work.

You won't have any troubles running with your boat. It can get a bit rough in the big water if the wind picks up, especially in a storm, but your boat will be able to handle it.

And like Brad said, the beach is about 2 hours to the east, and mountains about 2 hours to the northwest.

I will say Columbia can be hot and humid in the summer, but just jump in the water and life is good.

I have lived in the Myrtle Beach area for nearly 30 years, and have boated at Lake Murray off and on for the last 17 years. Finally bought a second home in Chapin a couple years ago and go there about every weekend during boating season, which is usually early March to late October, and I love the lake, the people, and the area in general. The lake has a pretty good following of performance boats. Check out www.excoboard.com/lmpb most of the participants are on Lake Murray.

I stayed at Dreher Island camp ground last year for a few days on the way to Charlston for a wedding.
Man i wished we had brought a boat .

I wouldn't live anywhere else. I have lived on the lake for 45 years. Once I get home on friday all my activities are based around boating. The drunks with boating problems don't hit the water until Memorial day and leave Sept. first. As long as guys like Danny (Heavy hauler) continue to move hear I will continue to consider myself blessed.

Lake Murray is a great place with a good crowd of people.
