Intercooler Sand Filter

I'm looking at buying a intercooler sand filter.
Hardin has a nice one; prolly buy that one.
Anyone have experience or use something else that I'm not aware of?

thanx!

I originally had a problem clogging my Wipple low profile intercoolers until I installed a set of Hardins, the problem disappered.

i just talked to Dustin at Whipple about intercooler strainers, he told me not to use them, he said they dont let enuff water through the intercooler...

I'm sure that theory could be tested by using a temp AIT gauge and testing it in-line and bypassed. My intercooler was plugged and leaking, so I will put one on.

I am doing some rework on someone else boat and his intercooler had a lot of sediment in it, so that leads me to believe the strainer is needed. I flushed it and it seems ok now, but he does not want to spend the money on a new strainer.

I've got the Hardin Marine intercooler strainers. They are very well made and work great. When we were rigging everything (Whipple low pro's) we bought the KPM strainers first, after inspection, decided to spend the money and go for the Hardins.

My Hardin intercooler strainer flows lots of water.
Remember they have a bypass so they will flow even if the filter media is plugged.

I heard the same thing. No strainers on my Whipple Intercoolers, but then again, I stay away from sand.
