Alcohol and Poker Runs

At risk of being labeled a spoilsport, stick in the mud, killjoy, party pooper...

...does it make sense for a Powerboat Association who's goal is to "promote safe boating" to serve Mamosa's and Bloody Mary's at the origination of a poker run?

I've got more thoughts on the topic but I'm interested in anybody else that may have an opinion on this...

I actually think it is pathetic!!!!!!!!! :(

They say they promote no alcohol on the boat. But before hand it does not matter??? WTF!!!

No alcohol is allowed on my boat. PERIOD!
Only one time in the last 10 years of boating has alcohol even found a spot on the boat and that was at LOTO when guest brought it.
Never again. Seen way to many bad things happen.

Nope.....your are correct. Most stupid thing to do. Before and more importantly during. If you have any part in the operation your a complete ass if you decide to drink. Its hard enough with drunk drivers in cars, let-alone someone driving a boat with no brakes...etc. per-say.

While I have personally never been on a poker run, a good weekend at LOTO seems to be nearly the same thing!:D ;)
My policy on my boat is pretty simple. The driver of the will absolutely stay sober! Of course, I'm the driver. :) I will have a drink with lunch or snacks at one of the bars, but that is it.
As far as the passengers, drunk and obnoxious will get you a one way ticket to shore!
I am having way too much fun to babysit a drunk!!
At a poker run, it would seem that lots of fast boats+alcohol=very bad things.
I would probably choose not to attend an event that had several 90mph + boats with loaded drivers.
I like living way too well!!:D :D

The registrarion packet that I just reccived for a local run says in big bold letters ABSOLUTLY NO ALCOHOL WILL BE CONSUMED BEFORE OR DURING THE RUN, IF WE CATCH YOU YOU WILL LOSE YOUR ENTRY FEE AND BE ASKED TO LEAVE! smart move if ya ask me.

Jana 07-03-2002 05:17 PM

That's a good policy!

Gumbydammit 07-03-2002 05:36 PM

Stupid thing to do.
Surprised there has not been a lawsuit about it already.

I like my booze...but AFTER the keys are out of the ignition for the night.

It's your democratic right to say ya or nay.............get it. They aren't twisting your arm.

Shanghied Again 07-04-2002 12:11 AM

THE NJPPC has the same policy (NO ALCOHOL) BEFORE DURING any of our runs! If you are caught you will forfit your cards and you will loose your membership to the club. Why Drink and risk the lives of you and your fellow boaters! You don't see racers drinking before a race!
