1000 Islands Poker Run
 

Thinking of participating in the run- I wanted some feedback from people who have done it before- How is it? Worth a 9 hour tow? thanks

Absolutely not...
 

...unless you want to see a beautiful river, quaint water front camps, large elaborate homes, scenic islands of all shapes and sizes! More boats of differing styles, shapes and sizes in one place than you might have thought possible!

For a 9 hour tow I think you would find it worth your while to get there a few days early or stay a few days after to explore more of the area.

You can get a small hint of the area by looking at it via Google Earth. Through virtually all the area there are two channels, the US and the Canadian. Both are very scenic, different, but attractive.

Take the time to get to Tibbitts Point, Sackets Harbor, ABM in Clayton, Boldt Castle & Boathouse, Brockville, Kingston and many other attractions.

There is a ton of history in the area, if that is interesting to you.

its my hometown and one of the most beautiful boating destinations in the world.
Make sure you know where your going there alot of granite rock shoals.

There are places where you can almost back up to the shore and have water beneath the boat; and there are areas where you are in 65' of water and hit a granite spike nearly in the middle of the water! I am sure petrotanks will confirm these are only slight exaggerations.

It is an area where good charts and/or GPS/sonar are great for peace of mind. I think a radio is imperative.

I have a cottage on Wolfe Island, largest of the 1000 Islands, GORGEOUS area! Well worth the drive, its some of the nicest boating you will find, let me know if there is anything I can do, and c'mon up, eh!!

Given current events.....pack a lunch for the safety meeting. :)

I have been to this event as a spectator, I was jonzing to get a ride in one of the boats. It is an amazing sight to see the boats roll out and then start up the St. Lawrence.
