New to the forum

Well I recently lost my mind and bought a boat, it is an 84 Scarab 1. I found your forum while researching things for my new boat and thought I would join. Looking forward to learning from everyone here and sharing what I know (which should'nt take very long.)So, a big hello from Maryland to everyone!

Welcome to OSO...

...this can be a wonderful reference site.

I have not been here long myself, but have discovered there are many people on here who are very informative, patient and knowledgeable about many different topics.

Jump right in and get your feet wet. Sorry bad metaphor!

lol, well your second slip was finding us. This is not the road back to sanity my friend . . . . . in fact it's quite the opposite :D

we can help with the following:
justifying why you need to fill the boat before paying the rent
how to convince your significant other that blower was on it when you bought the boat
How it actually makes sense to "go bigger"
proper method of skipping family functions for a day on the water (sometimes they catch on when the realize they only see you on rainy days)
Why twins are more economical and practical then a single

welcome to the site . . . . .

Welcome!!

First step is to get some pictures posted. Your not a paying member(yet) so you will need to upload to photobucket or flicker or something and then post links! We all love pictures so......

Congrats on the new boat.
You'll find this site to be a priceless wealth of knowledge on powerboating. Every question I've ever addressed here has come back with quality hands on knowledge answers.
These guys and girls are the greatest!!!
There's also a lot of comedy here too.
Just remember the most important aspects of the sport.
First boat is always an acronym for "bust out another thousand"
Second, remember whatever you put into it your not going to get back.
Third, don't ever kick yourself in the ass for any purchase from fuel to parts no matter what your significant other or best friends tell you.
Finally, powerboating is a priceless sport with a lot of reward in the satisfaction of moving across the water with anywhere from a little bit to a whole lot of speed. But, it does come with a price. Learn how to save money "cause you'll be needing it soon no matter how new or old your boat is".

WELCOME to OSO!!!

See ya,
Kelly

It's a 5.7 with alpha 1, so far I have got about 50mph out of it, but tachometer is reading wayyy low, thats for another thread though : )

gofastlvr 07-11-2012 07:54 PM

run... run very fast! the folks on here only encourage you to spend you money on things that break and then tell you that it is an "opportunity to upgrade"! This site will however require you to screw off at work just to read all the endless amount of information housed on this great site... I might suggest some type of covert website viewing device if you actually do have a job that requires your attention because most of these keyboard cowboys just sit in front of their computer all day and give you more reason to buy expensive stuff... I started with a Formula 242LS and now look at what happens after just a few years! I could have been retired at 40 if not for this wonderful addiction we call fun.

Welcome, That was my dream boat in 84, good luck with it

Ive got an 89 222 Stingray with a 5.7 alpha combo, bored. 030 it has comp marine cam, vortec heads with port work, dual plame intake, and a holley 650, and with a 21p LaserII 3blade im turning 4900rpm @wot running 60-65 depending on fuel load and passengers. You should get somewhere close to that

I gotta check that out when I have more time, I am in Hollywood, boating out of Patuxent River mainly, but always looking for new places to go.
