APBA Kilo Runs

The APBA Kilo runs are on today on the Savannah River and it appears the top speeds will be limited because of the current of the river, the curves in the river restricting the ability to reach top speed before reaching the course, the heat and the humidity. With some 28 boats trying to set new records it should be exciting.

One question: The Bud boat and Drambuie on Ice are listed on the APBA page as setting their records last November at Osage Beach, MO. Was this an APBA sanctioned KILO run and if so why were there not more boats?

The Thursday test runs had Tommy Bahama running just short of 135 MPH, short of Drambuie's record of 139.9.

Bacardi Silver was able to reach just over 170 mph and will need quite a bit of help to break the 188.8 mph.

I wish I were on the river front watching a cat cruise by @ 170.:)

Tommy Bahama........

They announced at the drivers meeting that Tommy Bahama has the record. Why I don't know, but i think it has to do with the engine hp changes.

That was Awsome watching Bacardi fly by today. Hmmmmm, i wonder how many outboards i can fit on the back of my skater?

kilo run 2001 at LOTO

Q: Why were there not more boats?
A: Popular rumor was that the Water Patrol did not want a lot of boats. Drambuie and Bud boats knew about it supposedly because Budweiser funded the kilo. It apparently was kept hush-hush to keep entries down.
