Slide in mufflers
I have come to the conclusion that though the boat sounds really cool I do not think some of the house boat people in the marina like the sond.....Some guy blows a airhorn every time we go past his place
Not sure which is worth my unmuffled big block or his airhorn Can anyone sugest a good slip in muffler for my through hull slash cut tips? Thanks all |
you can get them from CP Performance the quickest in your area http://www.cpperformance.com/c-472-s...silencers.aspx
Rex Marine , Hardin Marine , just about every one of them have it. |
Slip ins really will not do that much to reduce sound. They will take some of the bark off at idle, but will probably cost you 1-2mph as well.

Get Gattlins!
|
Get the Donkey D**ks.

I have some GBB clamp-on style mufflers and looked closely at their new slip-ins. They look like a good product with minimal power loss. Or buy your own airhorn? Ha, good luck.

I have the 79.99 models on my 454 mag and they quiet it down pretty good. I would think they will do the trick for you.
I am cutting out the stock inline "twist" baffles since apparently they really hurt performance at similar power levels to me and can install these when I need to. My tips are only about 6" long on the short side of the angle cut so these were about my only option. These will hurt performance too, but I can have them out in seconds. |

Rex Marine , Hardin Marine , just about every one of them have it. I tried using the bolt as a set screw to hold them in, and blew one out after about 4 uses.:party-smiley-004: I also think I was losing quite a bit more than a couple mph, but they did quiet it down. |

You have to drill through your pipes to install these properly.

This is correct, I am notching the tips and using a tach weld that one you slide them in you will rotate past to solve this, using the set screw to keep it from rotating. It does say right in the add not for more than 425 horsepower so I expect to lose performance, no doubt about it. Since my tips are so short and I have flush tips, it was about my only good option without spending money for something I'd rarely use. I guess what can you expect for $80. Did it freak you out when they flew out? |
These slip ins are held in by a 1/4" bolt threaded into the nut that's welded into the muffler and an additional nut used as a locknut , added on to keep everything together safely. I use them in my tips of the 6.2 MPI engines in my boat [ less HP than the max rating for these mufflers! ] and used them in 450 HP engines as well ,never blew one out. One can drill a 5/8 relief hole in the center of the baffle to lessen back pressure and still maintaining noise reduction.Just a thought if you worry about blowing them out.
