The lesson is walk up to a boat full of women offering anchoring services? Not a bad way to break the ice. :)

Lake Cumberland, Kentucky

Great big TVA lake on the border of Kentucky and Tennesee. 100 miles long, very deep with crystal blue water, and a temperant climate. Not too hot and not too cold. No hassles from noise or speed police. One of the nation's largest poker runs the weekend after Labor Day, with several other smaller runs throughout the season.

I just happen to have a place for sale there. Our primary residence is outside Detroit, and we have decided to try boating closer to home, on the Great Lakes. The house is furnished in hardwoods floor to ceiling and a commercial window wall, with five+ acres. We lived there full time for a couple of years, and it is very comfortable. Check it out.

Lake of the Ozarks has to be on the list. If you visit, though, you may just stay!

What else is out there? How about some lesser known lakes that most of us never get to hear about?

There is more coastline in the state of OK than CA. It also has the farthest inland port.

In OK:
Broken bow lake, but doesn't allow any lakehouses.
Grand Lake, pretty popular among go-fast and closer to Tulsa.
Lake Eufala
Much more I can't remember. Not may places in OK that are not within 30 minutes of a lake.

In TX:
Lake Conroe
Possum Kingdom
Lake Whitney
Caddo Lake.......the only natural lake in TX. Not really go fast friendly, but some of the scenery, the trees are like being in a whole different world. Great pics here http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/caddo-lake

Lots of good places in Louisiana and Arkansas as well. LA is really a sportsmans paradise. You could post up in the North east corner of TX or West Arkansas or a place on Texoma and have endless outdoor water activities all within 5-7 hour drive ......from the TX coast all the way up to LOTO. All within a days drive.
