Mercruiser Double Lip Seal

I am replacing the seals in the upper half of my stern drive and got the seal kit 88397a1. The only part im stuck at is the double lip seal. Now when I removed my seals I had 2, in this kit I received one but it is a double seal where mine were single. I know when I looked on the parts diagram the later serial number I think had the double seal. The other part that worries me is that this double seal is not the same height as the other two seals on top of each other. If I did use the new double seal wouldn't it then have a greater chance of dislodging out of its location because of more play? Or should I just buy to of the same type of seal that was in there? The part number for the double seal is 864319. Here is my serial number off of my stern drive in case this helps 0F243675. Thanks!!

Go ahead and use the new style seal.

One seal keeps the oil in and the other keeps the water out so it sounds like they redesigned them into one seal with a double lip but you may want to verify that before finishing it.

I think I may just buy the old style seal which was in there. If both of the seals were the same height I would just put the double in. But with it being smaller I dont want it to work its way out.

I just had another thought about the seal, did they redesign the seal with the double lip because the 2 single lips were prone to failure quicker? Thanks!
