How to jack with Craigslist scammers

You know we've all seen these dirtbags in action with their "I'm overseas, out on a ship, etc crap and want to pay your asking price sight unseen, use Paypal, and send my agent/representative to pick up the unit.
This $hit has gotten ridiculous on my selling vehicles on C-list.
I know I've read here that some members have jacked with them for fun and I'd like to enjoy some of the same.
I believe that these guys are using a computer to generate their emails because when I answer the original email my second response from them always asks questions about the unit which I completely described in my initial reply.
Here's a copy/paste of all my 2nd replies on this item for sale.

I already gave you the history of the trailer and answered every question you just asked at the bottom of your e-mail,

HERE'S A COPY OF MY CRAIGSLIST AD

38' McClain 18000lb capacity
triple axle aluminum boat trailer for sale.
Set up currently for Baja 38 special.
Sorry I don't have pics but will try to get a few soon

This ad is for a boat trailer sale only.
It is not OK to call seller for any other reason other than interest in the trailer for sale.
This is a cash sale, I do not do paypal or any other payment methods.

Now that you've read my Craigslist ad again read this slowly and carefully.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE CASH IN HAND TAKE THE TRAIN AND JACK WITH SOMEBODY ELSE
IF YOU WANT THE 2008 TRAILER SEND ME A PHONE NUMBER TO SPEAK WITH YOU AND I'LL SEND YOU PICS
OTHERWISE GO TO MCCLAIN TRAILERS AND BUY A NEW 2012 FOR OVER 12000 WITH YOUR PAYPAL ACCOUNT
THIS IS A VERY GOOD CONDITION 38' ALUMINUM TRAILER FOR A VERY FAIR CASH PRICE
I'm curious as to how y'all have taken it to the next level by moving forward with them and running a few of them through the spin cycle.
I'm completely open to ideas.

See ya,
Kelly

Kelly, I too have received some spam CL questions and like others have said it is not even worth your time

there really just wanting your email address, so when you respond they have it.

tylerjustinhunt 07-26-2012 11:19 AM

I always respond with my asking price has gone up and they always seem to be ok with that lol

Big Time 07-26-2012 11:23 AM

Get a phone number and drunk dial them at 2 in the morning....just say whatever rolls of the tongue.

Yea I read that just opening emails from these guys now can harm your computer. The latest scam is an email asking "is this items still for sale" and when you answer they then ask for your name and address to mail a bull**** check to. In some more extreme cases like one guy I thought was legit and turned out to be a jack off after I sent him 5 emails with pictures I milked him for what I could get and then put his phone # and email as well as his name, etc and filed a complaint with IC3 the FBI internet crime reporting site.

In my ads I say they must reply with a phone number. If they are in fact serious they will. I try to ignore all others.

Also, I use an email address made up for C/L only.

Don't phuck with them.........their criminals and probably have a lot less to lose than you do.

cabin fever 07-26-2012 02:56 PM

I usually respond with something along the lines of "go phuck yourself"

or make up a bogus email addy, and thell them I have copied the FBI's internet fraud division with a reply. (I don't know if the FBI even has an internet fraud division) I never hear from them again.

i had a project 34 hatteras listed for FREE and they still sent email- i am looking for item just like this, will send a check. and now the new scam..."you sound really hot. join this porn site and we can get together!!!" just delete the emails. don't answer. if they give a phone number, it is fake.

Baja226sport 07-26-2012 05:32 PM

Definitely do not even answer!!! Some of them only need to see your email address. Password cracking software can do the rest for them! They can either use your email to scam others or once they get your email addy and figure a password if you have given any other information god knows......

It happened to me and my brother in law!

It is a shame but you can actually download password cracking software for free online and it works pretty well. So be careful!

I am a "deleter" as well, once I get past the first line I already know whether I should hit it or not, and I never think twice about it. That's just how it is, and I accept that.
