We lived in Elizabethtown (just north of Bowling Green) for several years and loved it. Great part of the country.

Cumberland is bigger, but Dale Hollow has bars/restaurants on the TN side of the border...so between the 2 we liked DH.

The good thing is you don't have to pick 1 lake to go to; there are several. Besides the ones mentioned there is also Nolin River Lake which is about 30 minutes from BG. It's a smallish lake in terms of surface area, but about a 15 mile run from where we used to put in (Wax marina) to the "party cove" at the dam. There's nothing actually on the lake in terms of bars and restaurants, but if you want peace and quiet (and nice scenery) it's worth a visit.

One word of caution; in the state of Kentucky it is illegal to consume alcohol in public. You will go to jail if caught. Use a coozie if you're drinking....better yet use the ubiquitous red solo cup.

About your last part, yes its illegal to drink in public in the state of KY. I have yet to see a law enforcement officer put a passenger in jail for drinking unless they were acting stupid and could not contain themselves. Now the driver, that's another story. Come on down to KY, your going to love it!

+1

Cheap property taxes too. Expensive boat and car registration though. You'll want to document the boat.

Bowling Green is a great area. I grew up in Central KY and live near Nashville now. Rapidly growing area with still reasonable property prices.

In Bowling Green you are 2 hours or less from three great lakes. KY Lake, Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow. About an hour south is Old Hickory Lake (where we live and boat) and Percy Priest Lake. Old Hickory is a trip worth making. Good lake boat on, lock through to the Cumberland River and 20-30 minute ride to downtown Nashville and tie up for Lunch and sight seeing. Several marinas with overnight slips available.

Everyone has already covered what I was going to add to the conversation, but yes Cumberland is your best bet.

Good luck on the job and if you make the move welcome to KY.
