what's faster turning in or out on twins

what's faster (top speed) turnign twin props out or in for a conventional 24 deg v bottom

also, what are some of the hadling characteristic differences

Like I said in your other (identical) post on the tech board......switch em for Wed. and see what happens. Maybe get there a little early and we can try it before we head out to the big lake.

What Rob also failed to mention is this is a 272 Formula SR1 with twin 330's and Bravo 1's spinning 25" Mirage props.

Todd said, "In is faster"..."out is more stable"

If you swich them remember that one lever needs to be in Reverse to go forward.

Waterfoul 07-08-2002 10:19 PM

Yup.....shift em backwards!!!!

With counter rotated props both levers will have to be back to go forward. And the bottom line is that it depends on the boat. Mine was faster with them turning out ( for transom lift ) with the stock drives. Now with the shorties on it is faster with them turning in ( for bow lift)

Conventional hulls are slower turning in. The x dimension needs to be changed to run them in. Running the props out gives you a lot more maneuverability around the docks also.

i knew there were two answers to this question. I guess experimenting I'll have to do.

anyone else try this with 24 deg bottom? stock x dim?

skatermike24 07-09-2002 08:05 AM

I tried to switch lowers on my 24, didn't find any speed difference.

This is the question of the decade and everyone you meet will have a different answer. I my self have switched rotation on 2 different boats 1 was a 31 IMP and the other a 300 es Baja and on both boats they went faster esp the baja. The only problem was on the baja with turning them in and with the drastic hook in the hullthe boat handled terrible going down the lake while as the IMP continued to handle great. It is true that around the docks it does not handle as well and with both boats i had to used the wheel instead of just the engines but that was easily compensated for. Just some food for though you may want to check to see how drastic the hook is in the hull that is another way of getting more speed is to have that removed.
