boat for a car
 

I'm selling one of my classic boats for a couple reasons sadly but one of the goals is to end up with a classic car. It would be nice to skip all the selling and buying by making a trade. Is there sites that do this? I've done a couple searches and found nothing.

What kind of car are you looking for?

Holy grail would be a 1968 firebird but something from that era of late 60's to early 70's bird, camero, nova

maybe put soemthing in the swap shop dont know if they allow it. Problem these cars arent at dealers and more than likely will have to be a private deal. I would try with an add on craigslist.

Your going to have to think about your boat is worth, a firebird like that IMO is perfect would run you probably close to 40k something descent probably closer to 20 unless your looking for a restore. Your also going to have to find a person that wants to get into a boat and the boat market is probably smaller than the car market. If you have a classic boat(what is it) thats an even smaller niche. Honestly probably a hard slope to climb, probably going to be better of selling then buying.

I put up a Harley last year on Craigs List for sale or swap for a boat of equal value. Had a local guy called a couple hours later and got a deal made on his boat. Worked out good for both parties.

i think youll have better luck also if your willing to do a cash plus trade or both parties are that opens up the door more. If your looking for a direct swap it could be harder.

Not bad shape and road worthy, no rust. Has some issues but I'm used to that. Just dont want a basket case.

Sell your boat and get your cash in order and then seaarch hard for a smokin deal on the car you want, I think the economy is getting WORSE, the prices on stuff around here on the online auction sites is going DOWN steadly as people don't have money. I just watched a restored AAR cuda with 55,000 miles sell for 30k and a real beautiful 65 big block 4spd 33,000 mile Vette sell for 31,500.

Cash is king and any business that does a trade with you is going to value your boat at next to nothing and the car they are giving you like its gold, you'll either be offered a pos with hidden problems or depending on the value of your boat they will want some cash too , Smitty

numbers matching 1965 corvette with a 396 425 hp ya rite....they did not have the 425 hp until 1970 which was the 402 and the l78 in the vettes were 375 hp..must be a sales mans call lol..

Mr fixxall- You might want to read up on the chevy big block history, not only did they make a 425hp 396 in 1965 for the vettes but they also had a unique hood scoop (like the car in the auction) and there were only 2157 of them made total. I'm not really a Corvette guy either, I wanted one for years when I was younger until I drove one and realized what a lumbering POS they drove like. My point in mentioning this auction was a TON of really decent cars went thru and only sold for about 1/2 to 2/3rds of what I expected price wise, and I have been seeing more and more realistic prices on classic cars lately, I was sure that vette would pull in at least 50,000$ , Smitty

There were many horsepower combinations for the mighty 327 small-block in 1965 (ranging from 250 to 375), but the top number went to the new 396 cubic-inch big-block rated at 425 hp. The mid-year introduction of the Mark IV big-block marked a significant change in Corvette powerplants. From now on the biggest and baddest Corvettes would be big-blocks (it would be a long time before small-blocks topped big-block numbers).

The availability of the big-block 396 and its 415 lb-ft of torque added dragstrip demon to the Corvette’s previous reputation as a very quick sports car. Only 2,157 L78 1965 Corvettes were produced and they all had unique hood scoops, which make them easy to spot without opening the hood.

actually they made a little over 2000 '65 vettes with the 425 horse 396. if I recall they required the 4 speed and did not have power anything. the engine was around 12:1 compression. I recently sold a set of heads for one that were on my jet boat. I had one at the shop not long ago. it was still 12:1 and a blast to drive. It was a customers so I shifted it a 5500 instead of the factory redline of 6500.

GTO'S are much cooler than firebirds.

GTO's are cool but are a big car. There as long as my 2003 Chevy van. Wanted a old firebird since I was a kid.

LOL ...Didn't I offer you my old Porsche for the Monza? :-) It isn't exactly a Firebird, but it also could do a bit over 170mph, was well balanced and cornered on rails.

Beware of those nostalgic impulses, they can make a wise man do silly things :-) (I had to buy a BMW 635 csi for this very reason).

Depends what you really like, I am a big fan of the second gen firebirds and trans-ams, I race a 69 gto that I work on for a friend, it runs 11.67's in pretty much a non-streetable condition with a Pontiac 400. I am putting a Pontiac 455 that I built with a Mefi 4 efi and dynoed last year at 588hp in my 1974 transam in near future. To me a Gto is more of a family car and a firebird is more of a sports car:evilb:, Smitty

I hear ya but not really into the foreign cars. For that matter not really into most cars. Had a ton of them all the way up until I had kids. But now its feeling like its time again.

Thank you. No expenses were spared in this 7-1/2 year project. Almost 100K in this thing, but it is all original and all the numbers match. It almost always scored first place in different car shows and never lower than second. It isnt a hot rod as some might think...just a 72 Vette. The last of the shiny bumper Vettes.

Prices of cars were taken away from true enthusiasts yeasr ago and they will never come back to reality.
That boat is sweet! I hope you get what you need out of it.

The Vette is insured at 85K and the last Corvette appraisal that was done on it was 88.5k. The guy that did the apprisal is trying to convince his wife that they need it. Since the frame off restration, the car has a grand total of 680 miles on the odometer...395 of those miles was from the garage to the trailer and the trailer to the car show, then maybe drive around the block a few times and back on the trailer then back into the garage. The rest of the miles is driving it some around here...up and down the road. And the wheels...they are real knock-offs...no lug nuts.

That is a cool boat you have and I understand how hard it is to part with a toy...with the exception of an X wife or girlfriend. My X is with a semi-friend of mine and myself and my other friends just laugh as I tell them that I was brought up to share my toys with the less fortunate. He has her and that is fine with me.

Why not post on a Firebird forum?
 

I'd see if you can get a response out of a car forum. Many of these folks have too many cars and are either looking to diversify for themselves of gift to their kids.
