Converting a race boat to a pleasure boat?
If you found a really good deal on a race boat is it worth it to convert it to a pleasure boat. With that being said where is the best place to have this done? Glass shop?rigging shop? Is there some places that can do the whole project from start to finish? TnT? Grants custom rigging? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Kirk |
i would go back to the factory to have it done, alot of people have called me about cutting the top off speedy and making it a 5 seater, that can be done really easy for about 20-40k depending on options, but i would always have the factory do it for resale, just my .02

This is an open cockpit boat, the stand up bolsters are towards the stern and the dash is half way back into the cockpit, so that would need to be cut out and glass work done, all the gauges moved forward new seats installed etc.

Thanks Kirk I have often thought that making the Motley Crew race boat a four seater would be an awesome pleasure boat with the 525's that are in it. I only need the $$$,$$$ to buy it, now that is another story. The Roman's may not like the idea, I have always liked their boat, and I always try to follow all of the NJ based race teams and and their boats. That is an aweseome Skater. Go for it! |
It just kills me when people talk about making a pleasure boat out of a race boat. Why not just buy a pleasure boat to start with?

Of course it is usually because it is a ragged out, delamed, hunk of rotten balsa with a 300 hour, 100% WOT all the time engine in it that winds up costing more to convert to pleasure, rebuild/replace the engine, and fix everything else that is wrong with it than it would to just go pleasure in the first place.....:party-smiley-004: |
