Race Engine rebuild

Hey everyone..

A friend and I recently purchased a boat from a guy who used to race in Panama. As part of the sale he offered to throw in an old racing engine and of course we said yes. The engine is a high compression racing engine with direct manual injection, with the large individual intake trumpets. the engine looks to be in ok shape, as all openings were sealed and the intakes were covered for preservation. The intake cover has Hawk embroided in it.

We would like to have the engine rebuilt. We are not looking to race again and ware not looking to have a 1000hp racing engine, just rebuild this one to as close to its current specs as possible.

Cloud someone please recomend a reliable and knowledgable rebuilder, preferably in the Florida area?
I will post more pics tomorrow.

Thanks !!

Give Gary Smith a call at Carolina Race Engines in Ft Lauderdale. (954) 815-6461 He built many engines at Hawk for years before opening Carolina Racing. He will most likely know the exact build specs of that motor.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but, I think those old systems were setup to basically run wide open most of the time. That may not be the best system for a pleasure boat. i would make a cool static display out of it for your office or home. It looks *****in!

The vintage Can-Am race car guys might be all about that mechanical injection.

I deal with a lot of constant flow injection systems. The bigest problem they would have is the lack of an acceleration enrichment curcuit. To make the engine accelerate, you have to set the idle REALLY rich. I'm talking choke and gag in no-wake-zone rich.
Kinsler can convert it to EFI. That will make for a bad-ass set up. The mid tange would be unbeleivable! It would sound really sweet too!
