ummmm......no. Deerfield Beach is about 40-45 miles from South Beach. DB is the northern most town in Broward County and is about 15 miles north of the Ft Lauderdale airport.

South beach, coconut grove, or head north to Boca Raton

JETDOC 09-07-2012 04:43 AM

don't forget the keys, Largo is a short ride

Whatever you do, stay in Miami Beach, or just over the causeway near the cruise port and Bayside. Some other area's of Miami are a little shady at best, especially for out of towners that don't know what to expect. Coconut Grove is another good option. I am not much on Miami nightlife(except during the boatshow, SHHH dont tell my wife), but you cant go wrong with Lincoln Road and Washington Ave. There are also other options if you don't mind renting a car such as the upper keys, or North to Broward/Palm Beach counties, Nicer hotels and restaurants in my opinion for less $$, but your gonna travel a bit to party.

Here would be my choice if staying in palm Beach County

Just south of Ft. Lauderdale

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin...ropertyID=1402

or Miami Beach

http://www.fontainebleau.com/web

or Key largo

Of course there are cheaper options, but be careful as to what you pick, there are some dumps also.

I would stay in Coconut Grove. Great area everything in walking distance. I worked down there for a few years.

Stay at the Mutiny or Residence in.

Stop by Monty's on the water for a great meal next to the marina.

Head over to COCOWALK for shopping and a few drinks.

Only 15 minutes to Port by cab for you cruise.

B Hotel in Ft Lauderdale just underwent a multi million dollar renovation (used to be Holiday Inn i think), it is right across from the beach on Sunrise and A1A. Rates have been really good for its location, think some people coming down to see me paid like $140/night. Really a nice hotel and walking distance to Beachplace.

Fountainbleu in N Miami is awesome, but expect to pay a lot more, but if you are primarily going to be spending your time in Miami saves you a long trip home!

Thanks for all the help. About how long does it take to get to Miami from Ft.Lauderdale

AO31 09-08-2012 09:40 PM

Not to hijack but....does anyone know a place just a bit south from Spinnaker marina that has no electricity and sells fresh shrimp and beers out of ice filled horse troughs?

richanton 09-09-2012 08:52 AM

Stay at the Mondrian South Beach. It's right near the 395 Causeway (where the cruise will leave from) and if you get a bay view room you should see some nice performance boats running back and forth through the cut. It's close enough to walk to Lincoln road and all the shops and restaurants. You can also walk down to the beach side Ocean Drive, Collins ave and Washington ave. Its also close to Montys raw bar, lots of nice boats ane eye candy. Everything is right there. You don't want to stay in Coconut Grove, you will be bored in 2 hours. You definitely don't want to stay in Deerfield Beach, that's like going to NYC and staying in Yonkers.

Dirty Bird 09-09-2012 01:13 PM

South Beach,

Check out
1. Delano
2. Mondrian
3. Fountainbleu.

Go to Monti's at the miami beach marina on friday night for happy hour, then walk up the sidewalk to Smith & Wollenskyies for a dinner on the water, at their outside bar

I can remember when The Cove would have 500+ people out on the outside patio/dock and the boats would be 3-4 deep on the dock on Friday nights about 12-15 years ago. Then the fire marshall decided that was too crowded and they cordoned off part of the dock to cut down the number of patrons it slowly died off from there!

You had to d@mn near park on Hillsboro to get anywhere near the place on a busy night!

That was before my time, but I have heard about it. Still good place, but if I am going to 2 georges, prefer Boynton.

You got a phuckin problem with people from
Ney York??

You can also stay downtown at the Epic hotel, they have a few good restaurants there that have a excellent food and great scenery, Zuma is one of the best restaurants in Miami. Nice view of the port and key biscayne from there also. Expensive shopping is Bal Harbour or Merrick Park, regular mall dadeland or aventura, outlet mall dolphin or sawgrass, you'll need a car to get to any of them. If you stay on the beach near lincoln road there is also shopping, eating and scenery there. W, Setai are nice hotels on the beach, fountainbleau can be kind of a clusterf*** on the weekends.
