Noise Law - testing procedure

Fish cops are starting to crack down here in Utah - buddy got a class B Misdemenor ticket for Noise violation last weekend -$1000 and/or 6mos jail at judges discretion, may be reduced if documented fixed by court date. And he was only 90Dba, just 2Dba over the 88 limit. Ouch!!!

Does anyone know how to decipher the testing procedure codes? They read: 88 Dba using SAE-J2005 or 75 Dba using SAE-J1970.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Troutly. Looks like a ton of room for error. I bet an attorney would have a field day with that.

Anyone know the procedure for SAE-J1970? I think it is the one they measure from shore as you drive by.

Where in Utah? Powell? What kind of exhaust open headers on a jet boat/v-drive or thru hull on closed transom? I boat at Powell ALOT so thats why I ask.

Nope not Powell yet - at least I haven't heard of anyone being stopped for noise. It was a local lake by Park City called Jordanelle. It's allways had reputation as being very strict with A-hole fish cops.
