End of season

35 degrees here this morning.....brrrrrr It will get up around 80 this afternoon, but right this minute is a reminder that it is about time to get everything ready for winter. The project is looking pretty good considering what it started out as. I will probably finish cleaning it up a bit more and then shrink wrap it for the winter. The shop isn't heated so I will find other things to do. I'm sure there are plenty of other folks already spending less time on the water in the northern areas.

I go to Columbus day every year, last year 3 of us took a day trip and it was 75 out, so you never know but it is my cut off first sunny day after she gets winterized, then its time to think snowmobiles

I welcome the end of September here in South Florida. It means that we've probably dodged another bullet with Hurricane season (Knock on wood...Wilma hit us 10/24/2005) and the weather gets a bit drier and the days are warm. We have about 8~10 more weeks to enjoy light traffic on the roads and on the water...before our winter tourist season arrives. Boating is pretty good here during the cooler months and the seas are usually 2~4' or less unless a strong cold front comes thru. The water temp stays in the 80's up until Christmas...then it falls into the 70's until April~May.

We really don't have a down time in boating here...we can pretty much go out any month of the year. The largest Poker Run of the year....Miami to Key West is run in November and again during the Miami Beach Show in February.

After you've been here a few years you get used to 80*+ water temps and most of us locals don't go in the water at all (except a heated pool!!) when it dips into the 70's. everything is relative I suppose.

aquaholic58 09-15-2012 09:24 PM

Looks like this weekend will probably be about it, where does time go

H20 Toie 09-16-2012 01:41 AM

Even though we can boat here year round we are sending the cig to Florida unti
The Miami boat show in feb
That way if it's cold here a quick plane ride and we are in boating heaven

n20michael 09-16-2012 02:21 AM

The weather is still quite warm
"up here" sadly, the water level is SO low it's getting hard to get out )-:

The season is not over here, but the every weekend of awesome weather is gone. Welcome to rainy season in Texas it seems lol.

chrisf695 09-16-2012 10:34 AM

Taking the boat out of the water today... water level is almost 3ft below normal. But let the winter projects begin!!

I imagine that is a welcome rain

I will probably keep the boats at the dock for another few weeks. The Donzi will come out first the pontoon will stay in for another couple looking for the last few warm days. That thing is a lot easier to winterize.

US1 Fountain 09-16-2012 07:46 PM

We always go till last weekend of Oct. when marina starts shutting off water and pump out. Marina gets scares, but us die hards just dress warmer. Some of the best times are just ahead!

PokerRun388 09-16-2012 09:09 PM

You can always see the weather changing in October with the NFL games. Right now its not bad all over, all the coaches are in polo shirts etc....

That will change soon, winter is coming, along with the shorter days....:(

Steamin Rice 09-17-2012 12:13 AM

When it hits October, I throw a few hoodies in the boat just in case the temps drop into the 60's, other than that it's year round boating.

Same here. Great day on the water yesterday. Won't pull until the end of October.

chrisf695 09-17-2012 10:50 AM

Well... tried to take the boat out of the water lastnight for the season along with 2 other deeper v boats and none of us could get our boats on the trailer... So we are having a guy take his mini exavator to dig it deeper next weekend. Cost us about 300 bucks to have him do it.

This picture is at my dock Saturday. Hope we get a good winter...

Yikes! Our lake is still down a few feet but no problems at our ramps.

PokerRun388 09-17-2012 10:09 PM

Summer, come back?. Lol.:p

inthetundra 09-23-2012 11:23 AM

It was 26 degrees this morning.....I looked outside, the cars and trucks were covered with frost. It's a bit early for that. The good news is I don't have to waste anymore time mowing the yard this year, but do need to get the oil changed on the RZR so it is ready to move snow when the time comes. I think I will get some shrink wrap ordered this week and next weekend get the air in the new tires on the trailer switched to nitrogen. It's only $20
