Indoor heated storage on Long Island
 

I would really appreciate any help you might be able to offer.

I have an opportunity to store my boat indoors in a heated building for the winter. I would think that would mean no shrink wrap and possibly no need to winterize.

One factor in this offer is that I need to get 4 or 5 other boats to fill the building before the owner will allow the space to be used for winter boat storage.

What do you thing the going rate would / should be on Long Island to store a poker run type boat indoors in a heated facility for 6-7 months this winter ?

Do you think most boats would be stored on or off a trailer?

What about someone trying to sell their boat. Would it be a worthwhile value to be able to show it all winter long and not have to cover it ?

Do you think that there is a market for this on Long Island this winter ?

Access to the boat would be available but somewhat limited.

Would still need to be winterized, heat goes out power failure etc.

Insurance one of the boats catched fire takes them all out,, its happened.

If the building is not zoned for that and the above happens the insurance company might not want to pay, and if the owner does not have insurance for building contents they will not pay.

Insurance would be a key factor and something that needs to be carefully looked in to but I think that as long as the proper insurance is in place on the boat and the building everyone should be properly covered. Even thought the heat system can be run on a small generator I would agree with you that winterized is probably the safer option.

where on Long Island are u talking about.. We had a few boats in a wharehouse by me the last couple of winters, but not sure about this winter yet.. Tom

It is insulated and the heat is in the slab so I think that also holds the heat for a while. That sure sounds like a great price that you get by you! I dont think you can do anything near that on Long Island..

Yea, what town ? I keep my boat at Al Grover's (Freeport) in a indoor rack but I may be interested in the future. I would be interested if I was able to have the option of towing the boat out in the middle of the winter to go south for a poker run or just a trip south. This wouldn't be for this winter but maybe a year or two from now....... Right now when they put her away you can't get it out till at least March/April.

That's a good question about getting your boat out during mid winter season. Depending on how the space gets filled and if your boat and others are on trailers I see no reason why they can't be moved out and back in. I think that that type of thing needs to be carefully discussed and agreed on up front, like how many times they will come and go, that type of thing.
