Glass Dave I think you made this hatch?? I was trying to figure out a way to make some "plugs" for the openings. Is that something you do also?

Yep, i made the rough hatch for the owner and he fit it to the boat. It was originally for a TG but i altered up the mold to the rough dimensions and he took it from there. Looks good on the boat. I could probably make some flat cored sheets with the same schedule but the would have to be fit and glassed in. Why are you trying to fill them in? just curious.

Mr.Sneak i actually did the same as above for a 38KV that was here in Ohio. Not sure how it worked (i think he sold the boat/project) but the dimensions of the shoulder of that hatch were close. Shoot me a PM and I'll send ya my number if interested. From the surface of the deck it is about six plus inches.

Thanks SneakAttack. i started out making cardboard templates of the engine compartment. Then made a template of the back and front. Transferred everything to wood. Figured out the height and style i wanted and started cutting. i wanted to be able to walk on them so i cut in stringers. Once i could jump on them and not have them flex i had them glassed up.

ICDEDPPL 11-04-2012 05:45 PM

It looks like the top cover for the carbs is clear?? thats sweet looking I want!

sweet...thats awesome! i measured mine today and my hatch scoops are 5inches tall so im thinking i will double the height. i do not have intercoolers and my flame arresters hit the top of the scoops now. i want to make sure i have enough room to clear when i add intercoolers.

how much does your hatch weigh?

do you stand or put any weight on your hatch if so how does it hold up? i believe your hatch is one piece? what are the pros and cons of a split hatch? thanks

I can stand on it all day Dave can answer that better than me but theres stringers inside for support. It is about 5 1/2" high.

sonic700 11-05-2012 09:39 AM

On the cigarettes they have a really thick original sun pad. I believe its about 6 inches. My hatch is at the top of the boat and my inside dimension of the hatch is 5 1/2 inches. That's just enough to fit 4 inch Intercoolers 8/71s and 3inch flame arrestors

Ryan...perhaps you should put a picture of yourself up here to give an idea of how strong those hatches are, considering you jumped up and down on them? LMAO!
