No, i believe they have just adopted a formula similar to the original 750 Supercat class engine. Anyone can build the engine as long as it meets the specs. Thats actually what i like about it.

Dave, I was referring to OUTDRIVES.... Seems that the rules are for Mercury only.

You are far off.
If you like I can post the video and telemetry to show you what speed the boat rolled over at.
You are correct that the boat was 50mph over what speed, the boat should have entered the turn at.

Still was no where near a 160 mph blow over...

glad those guys are OK and the boat/canopy held up great. Hate to say it but i had a little chuckle after the fact, was talking to X B-class racer BenPerfected on here and his comment on the incident was "well . . .if you find yourself coming into a turn faster or ahead of JT theres something wrong . . . you should be scared"

Again glad everyone was ok, been there done that its not fun. Not trying to make light of it.

It looks to me as ANY drive is allowed. The winning boat in KW, Maritimo, did not have Mercury drives.

3.17 OUTDRIVE SPECIFICATIONS -
3.17.1 Approved Drive Systems - The SUPERBOAT™ specification includes any type of drive system including those that use a combination fixed sterndrive (i.e. fixed mounted #6SSM) and rudder.

I'm more than aware of Maritimo but things have a way of fading to black in these classes. If the out drive choice/configuration is open then this could be a good class.

Next question is tunnel width and length to weight ratios.
