I am running my 27 progression at 100 with some more to go,no problem with control. I am running an IMCOscx 4 which is a surface drive with a merc 5 blade cnc prop,point being similar set up to Peter.I believe Toffen had a point in that cuttig down the skeg might have taken away from some of the control of the boat.Just think I would go back to full size skeg before try a big wing,but I am still very interested to see how this works out.

Cheeers, Toffen You must have realised by now that i don't always do stuff in a conventional way, you are correct the skeg was cut down and re-profiled but that is all part of trying to make the boat as fast as possible with a given amount of power and as already covered aerodynamic stability is much more efficient than dragging something through the water. With my new steering system the control is outstanding and i am really only fine tuning the upper speed handling to make it safer, easier to drive and to enable high speeds in rough water. If you take a look at the picture of Snowy Mountain Brewery the drive on that boat is mounted much deeper than ours and i think they have a break out speed of 90mph and it takes the talents of Brian F to keep it in a roughly straight line, very spectacular and entertaining to watch. It would be really interesting to try one of my steering systems on that boat also the top of the canopy lends itself beautifully for a stabilising fin. Peter |

Hi All,
We are back in sunny Florida, spent the last couple of days fitting the steering wheel mounted throttles with the re-designed gearbox to give better control, I also modified the paddles so my fingers fit into a slot so i can pull and push. Some of the instruments are mounted slightly under the side panel which made them very difficult to read so i cut away some of the side panel and lower part of the dash and re-glued the alcantara trim. Today i will start fitting the mounting brackets for the tail fin. Peter |

My ride is a Challenger 31 I DDC with an Ilmor 550 HP power , Bravo Teaque XR drive, full hydraulic steering. At 6500# shes not real light. I'm running 70 mph at 5300 rpm. 4 blade B1 24P non labbed. Question is would adding a nosecone on drive do much w/ a 70 mph boat. Probably could use a labbing to get a few hundred rpm's. Any thoughts???

Is the SV29 chine walking, or just bouncing back and forth due to the waves? For me chine walking is a violent dance side to side, even in flat water. And if you do not "drive through it" or back off, you can end up spinning out. I have a narrow Phantom 25 (5,5 feet wide), and I am sure you see most of the bottom in similar conditions to the picture above. But when I run it WOT I manage to fly on the tail - although I will not reccommend anyone to do WOT in 4 feet seas. Ha ha. Awesome details Peter. Look forward to the results :) Cheeers, Toffen |
Toffen very nice looking set up,was kidding about the chine walk in the photo and I agree with not running wide open in those type of seas.Also very anxious to see how the fin works on Peters boat

They don't run a surface piercing drive though, and had issues getting the 2750 to handle with an NXT. Small v's seem challenged by drives running cleavers. UD |
