oregondunes 09-28-2012 10:51 AM

the blue one looked like a gonner a couple of times with the waves coming over the back side

I grew up close to there and used to work on the fishing boats from this area and Lyttleton harbor on the other coast. As a mechanic, not a fisherman.

Crazy as it sounds, although not every day this type of water isn't too uncommon when the Grey river comes down in flood. And that river floods a lot.

Lost a couple friends on those fishing boats over there. Lost more boats than people though, usually when pulling the net in over the side.
Not sure about nowadays but back then the boys had an inflatable raft on the roof of the wheelhouse that would deploy once the boat sank to a certain depth. The stories go that waiting for that raft to come up when you're bobbing around in the ocean by yourself seems like the longest 10 minutes of your life.

The boys all made great money in a region where money has always been tight. My balls were never big enough to do it.

Looks about like Boynton inlet:party-smiley-004:

Didn't look all that bad. The igloo coolers didn't budge. Heck, the lids come off mine just rolling down the dock. :)

Apache Scout. That was an easy one :boat:

t500hps 09-28-2012 01:13 PM

A bit of "negative" slip numbers when those things are surfing downhill at 50mph!

triple XL 09-28-2012 03:07 PM

I would drive this guys 38 scarab, but I wouldn't put my boat through that.

74 Viking EB with the biggest engines they offer, or a jet ski! I wouldn't do that in a go fast, you would stuff it for sure.

Something about the turquoise water at Boynton inlet makes it seem less threatening? Hats off to those guys in the video, that's hardcore, just a normal day at work for those guys.

Man, that was intense- love those long range shots.

Those guys looked like they had been there a few times.

A narrow, deep Vee hull with enormous following seas would not be my first choice of equipment in that situation.

I agree, not quite that bad, but I have seen some nasty days at Boynton.

RedDog382 10-01-2012 09:41 AM

Holy freaking bilge pumps ... looks like a few times I've had out on Lake Erie! You can see the deck scuppers and bilge pumps working full tilt. Best part of the video is at 5:52 where the guy comments "they're f'ing crazy".

Too Stroked 10-01-2012 01:07 PM

I'm not sure biggest problem would be there:

- Not enough water depth (between the swells)

- Not enough power

- Not enough bilge pumps

- Not enough steering (to recover once slapped sideways)

No matter what, "not enough balls" was not an issue there!

Formula 233 maybe. Something with a ton of free board but light enough to maneuver fast. A friends Grady White might survive :party-smiley-004: Otherwise I like that Seadoo choice :lolhit:
