Navy Seals Challenge by Sharkey-Images

1st Annual Navy Seals Challenge in Seaside Heights, NJ Sept 29th -30th dedicated to the memory of Navy Seal Denis C, Miranda.

I volunteered my services to this organization when I was asked to come cover their event over a year ago.

I had no idea what to expect being as this was the 1st event.

I arrived 7AM sharp in Seaside Heights on the Boardwalk and saw they had been busy the last couple of days in preparation for this event.

The Obstacle Course was just amazing and was most likely very close to a portion of the training a Navy Seal would go through.

The event was open to the public to take the Challenge. Along with it was a 5 K Run and a Run Swim Run competition.

This was so far different from shooting boats from a helicopter but I did catch a boat flipping over !

The event attracted such a diverse group of people . Young to old, both male and female . In fact one of the young boys took 4th overall in the 5K Run. Very impressive.

One of the most captivating moments of the day was David "Goldberg" Laurie .
Such an outstanding performance, I gave the man his very own Photo Gallery.

He was so determined to do this entire Obstacle Course.
When I came upon him in the middle of my shoot, I simply put everyone else off until I finished shooting him and that was when he completed the course.

He was a Special Ops Vet. and one of the strongest individuals I have ever met.
Physically and Mentally. When you view his gallery, you will understand why I spent so much time with this guy ! He damn well deserved every bit of it ! Such an amazing achievement !

There is a Navy Seal Museum a 1/2 hr from our house and where it all started. One of the most humble experiences in my life was the day I went through that museum.
That human powered submarine in your pix's was one of the scarier things I saw.
I took a bunch of pix's there as well. Amazing individuals to be sure.

Tim....great shots as usual. That guy is amazing, real old school for sure. Thanks so much for covering these SEALS, everything they do is so much appreciated by the rest of us who enjoy our freedom because of them.

I found myself cheering the guy on going through the pics. Determination..... Something lacked in today's youths.

Tim, thanks for the shots. I hope they do it again next year as I would love to try it.

The plan is to make this an Annual Event.

I did put the camera aside for a few moments screaming for him and cheering him on ! Especially tossing that sandbag like it were a basketball ... :eekdrop:

As stated earlier, this event was dedicated to the Memory of PO 3rd Class Denis C. Miranda

I also learned there was another event the same day in honor of him. It is called "NJ Run For The Fallen" . The runners started in Cape May, NJ and over the course of 3 days would end at the Vietnam Memorial in Holmdel, NJ over 120 miles away.

Later that evening I took some time to go and provide coverage of that event as well. The woman I met at the SEAL CHALLENGE and informed me of the NJ Run For The Fallen was pleased to see me there. She noted she was disappointed not to see the mainstream media there. I forwarded the links to all of the newspaper email addresses I have and offered them the images free of charge in the memory of all our fallen heroes.

It sure would be nice if the papers would do a post story of the event.

Tim!

That is a great article and it was nice of you to volunteer your expertise of taking great photo's for this great event. The Navy Seal Challenge to Honor the Memory of Navy Seal "Denis Miranda" and to help bring awareness about the sacrifices made by the Navy Seals and all of the men and woman of the Armed Forces. I looked at all your photos and the section on David "Goldberg" Laurie who is a Special OPs Vet. His determination to overcome any situation and complete his mission is very evident. My thanks goes out everyone who are serving in the Armed Forces past and present and to all those who have given their lives for us so we can feel safe and free. Thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors that it takes to put on something like this and Tim thanks again for bringing this great event to us in the Memory of Navy Seal Denis C. Miranda and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us. God Bless Everyone.
