Ahh PIB.....I miss those carefree days! Some of the best years of my life were working at the B-Barrell in the late 80s/ early 90s.....

Scheming really hard to make it work but I keep getting stuck on needing 2 wks and a bunch of jing. Actually back to looking at buying a 2nd cuddy and leaving it in Ohio somewhere and fly back and forth. We'll see about this trip though. If it were still August it'd be a no brainer but we're actually looking at the 1st of November. We're thinking now instead of dragging the boat up we may head to the Keys for a week when we get back. For what an Ohio tow would cost in gas would pay for all of a Keys trip. |

The picture of Lonz's sure takes me back. I remember doing the 5K foot race there several times and being drunk on their wine by 10:00 A.M. after the race. Back in the day, a trip to the Bay wasn't complete w/o a trip to Lonz's/Middle Bass. I remember crawling on the ferry over one time when there was 3 bridal parties on board :cartman: One of the brides to be was wearing a T shirt w/life savers sewn all over the front of it. A buck a piece to chew them off. I had a pocket full of ones from the night before. I handed the whole wad to the maid of honor and told her to stop me when it was gone :lolhit: Best part was I was the first one to that shirt so I had my pick of areas to target ;) |
A lot of good times at PIB and Middle Bass. I still remember the day the Lonz porch collapsed and a lot of people got hurt/killed. That was the beginning of the end.
One, among many favorite PIB stories: Closed down the Round House (Ben Dover and the Screamers were playing) one night and jumped in one of the van taxis that used to cirlce the park to go out to the "late" night bars on the south side of the island. There was aleady 5 or 6 drunk tourists on board as we head out Catawba Ave when a police car pulls over the cab. They get the cabbie's license/registration and then get him out for a sobriety test(they were tipped off he had been drinking). So there the cabbie is "walking" the line along side the road as a bunch of drunk tourist and myself are cheering him on with encouragement. Well, he doesn't pass and off the cabbie goes to the PIB police station.......leaving us to walk the rest of the way out to the SkyWay. Just another night on PIB....... (Don't get me started on Danger Brothers/B-Barrel stories) |
Hilarious...

(Don't get me started on Danger Brothers/B-Barrel stories) BTW, I went by the winery the day it collapsed and planned on stopping. Was there a couple wks later, before they closed it for good. They had the area roped off where the floor gave way. We heard all the stories of the pending law suits and knew then that it was over. |
Looking a bit like Fall in Ohio in todays view.

PIB also means PUT IN HER BUTT lol

We lucked out last year and was there for October fest.. Left early Saturday morning and suprised my pops. He was already over there so we took the gun over... It was a great weekend!!
Your story above reminds me of something I learned. The best times/trips are always the ones that just happened. You have so much fun that you then make plans to duplicate it later but of course it's never as good as the first one. We had a similar one by car one year when we came up for the New Yrs eve Walleye Drop in Port Clinton. New years day was absolutely gorgeous! Mid 70's and sunny. So we stock a cooler and take the car over on the ferry. End up at Mr. Ed's watching the Rose Bowl game w/the locals. They were having an end of season party and cleaned out the shelves/freezer and dumped everything in a pot and cooked it :thankyouthankyou: Told the bar tender we were considering staying if we could find a room for the night and thought the weather would hold for us to get back the next day. He got us a room that was still open at their hotel and after several more libations convinced ourselves that the ferry would get us back. End up being a one in a million weekend, made it back the next day before the weather turned back to crap and the ferry ended it's season. Thanks for the pix's and for jogging my memory. |
Stupid island I love it....heading up next saturday!

My favorite trips there were always very early/late season. Normally made the point of trying to do that once a season.

Great Story Twin. I love reading your posts on the islands. It is very well written. I feel I was hanging at the bar right then and there!! :)
We are scheduled to fly up next week and I keep looking at the calender, weather reports and Sonic trailer.......and thinking about it. Not this time though. On the islands, in season I'd never think of taking a car over and normally the ferries schedule to prevent this for the weekends. Out of season though, I always enjoyed those trips as there's no island traffic and it is way different being there w/your own wheels. I do still remember the locals harassing me (after deciding to spend the night) about all the tourists that have gotten their cars stuck on the island for the winter :cartman: |
