Looks like their new small block is out performing their old big block in up to 11k lbs applications in the test. Pretty cool...a big difference too.

GPH figures at any given RPM is pretty much spot on to the 6.2 [ 377cu] MX Merc's in my boat! My boat weighs over 6000lbs dry. Like the 6000 rpm WOT range though better on this Volvo.

Nice, Volvo engineers and builds some great stuff. Wish they would get back in the performance game.

I loved my DPX600! I miss that combo!

It is about time LS engine hit the marine scene for major production. They are great platforms. These should be a game changer in the smaller sized go-fasts if Merc gets on the wagon too. Just dont see too many Volvo's in fast hulls.

We became a Volvo dealer about 5 years ago...I love em!

I have a 6.0 LQ9 in my Cadillac Escalade and I love it. Hot Rod Mag recently did a build up with Turbos on the LS platform to test the durability of the deep skirt 6-bolt main bearing design. They were able to get over 60 hard pulls at 32 PSI Boost making 1250 Horse Power utilizing a stock block and rotating assembly!!! When they tore it down and measured all of the rod and main bearing tolerances they were all with in spec for a new engine...that speaks volumes to me. :evilb:

Great thread!!

It's amazing that it's taken this long for the LS engine to be promoted in marine applications. Remember, Volvo / Mercruiser do not make the engine, rather they marinize a automotive based engine. The VVT is already baked into the package before Volvo uncrates the engine. Just have to wonder how the alluminum block and heads will hold up without closed cooling. Then their is the cost of the, well, 16 year old automotive technology.

My brother has a 402 LS2 based stroker in his 05 GTO that is stupid fast. Pulls hard from 2500 RPM through 6800 RPM, no dead spot. He daily drives it.

i was looking for the torque numbers on these new engines, what happened to the saying " no replacement for displacement" did technology overcame this ?
