Strange how the USCG has yet to file a formal report but is in the process of approving this year races.

Just wondering, does every fishing vessel have to produce an exact layout of the boat just in case there is an emergency? I'm pretty sure that there are no 2 fishing boats that are "exactly" the same, and oh yea, fishing boats are all over the place, not on a course. Sorry, just my thoughts

What is actually being investigated? Is it just the coast guard investigating? I think it is a given that races are dangerous. Is it a question of weather the rescue crews did their jobs? Smells like law suit.

I may be wrong but ........The USCG requires a permit to conduct the race and a part of that permit is their review of all the race procedures/processes.

It would be interesting to know exactly what "feedback" the USCG has provided to SBI and what actions SBI has taken as a result. Maybe some of the racers can provide that feedback?

The escape plan and review process makes a lot of sense. It sounds like they did that on at least one boat last year, but if it's a new requirement, it obviously was not a fleet-wide practice in the past.

If I were SBI, I'd welcome the investigation and it's recommendations. How could they NOT want to improve their operation?
