86 formula 242 ls

Have some questions and looking for someone who isn't gonna rob me or cut my arm off for the answers....I live in Pensacola Florida and was given this boat. I believe it has a TRS out drive, a Velvet drive inside and a newer 2006 496 mag ho motor. Is this what I have? Where in the hell do I hook the water up to flush the system even though it has its own cooling system for the motor. Can anyone spare a moment in their day to come by and give me some pointers on the maintenance and care of the boat. Thanks [email protected]

are you sure?? a velvet drive and trs really sounds like overkill on a 242 with a 496

I've seen some TRS 242's but I have no idea what the trans was. Can you post some pictures or put them in photo bucket and list the link

All I can say is that there was one if the clerks at West Marine told me it was a velvet drive and from pictures I believe it to be a trs...I do know the boat will hold 70 with two people on the boat....I have no idea what over kill is on a boat. I current car build is a 1700 hp twin turbo street car...

The boat is a 1986

Most likely a 1017 71C velvert drive and TRS, the 496 was not stock thats for sure, so someone repowered it, especially if it runs 70, most of these had 330/TRS and ran 62 ish

If it is a TRS there will by a thru hull fitting for the cooling water. If you want to flush you can get a thing that kind of looks like a toilet plunger that you screw your hose into and put the plunger part over the thru hull. There are other ways to do it.

Nobody here is going to "rob" you.

We are a bunch of guys and girls who collectively have been through most of every situation you could encounter relating to boating. You need to provide a little more information to get specific answers. Take some pictures if you can. Good luck!
