arneson asd-8 or merc ssmV under a 36 Cat
this is my future project : probably next year.planning to install two 950hp engines on a 36 Cat.
which drive do you think I should use?
asd-8 or ssm-V
advantages?
disadvantages?
my personal idea is: asd works better with hi-speed cats.specially where top-speed is needed.
any idea /comment/experience?

timucin The Mercury Drive has about a good prop shaft angle as can be had or expected ; The ASD on the other hand is by its design and installation is in a perpetual negative trim condition i.e.: trying to drive the bow into the water . Longevity!! the Arneson hands down winner in fact ASD 8 Units used by Kuwait Coast Guard were virtually unbreakable even to the point of after Completely Destroying 6 blade rolla propellers on the very hard granite like rocks found there The units were still very usable and in service !

It’s a 36' Skater with twin ASD8 drive units.
There is a new ASD8 with counter rotation built into the drive unit available now.
The negative trim angle is not as severe of an angle as some think, you cannot run positive trim angle with any surface drive or drive that is being surfaced for that matter.
How the boat is balanced is far more important that the drive trim angle…
