Go pro is awesome. We just did an rov job and thu had a go pro mounted to the top of the rov. Great video and stills. They have taken the 200 ft housing to 230 with no issues. After seeing this job I will most certainly be going with the hero3.

Im not making laps, I dont have any brakes, Im sure I can tell from my GoPro when Im on the gas and Im not sure why I need to know longitude or latitude, I can see where Im at in the video. Now over laying RPM/MPH would be cool if your making a shoot out record run and G Force would be nice too for acceleration test. |

The new GoPro has so many other cool features.
It can both simultaneously shoot movies and still pictures (both at the highest rate possible). It's does "stop action" on board (so you dont have to own an apple or mac to make great movies with this feature). Built in WiFi, so you can operate all the cameras you have on board with either the included remote or any apple/android product. The GoPro App enables full camera control and live scene preview on any compatible iOS smartphone or tablet. So you can "You View You" while on the go remotely 12mp/30fps bursts. 1440p/48 fps (or up to 4000p/15 fps) (do they even make TV's that can take advantage of that quality yet ??) It can operate up to 197' (60m) beneath the surface of the water User-selectable Ultra-wide, Medium and Narrow field-of-views The ultra high end Black edition is not going to be available for delivery until around December 15th. the other models (White and Silver) come out November 13th. Ive been following this newest product release for some time now and am pretty excited about it's release. I placed my order for 2 black models and bought a new movie making program as well. |
Oregon dunes. They have an aftermarket housing the rov crew was showin me. It gives way clearer picture than the one that comes with. He said its like 50 bucks. He showed me the difference it was obvious.

I have a ultra wide lense/case for my Hero2 and it makes a world of difference in quality, especially under water

The problem with the gopro is A.) the interface is IMPOSSIBLE to use. and B.) The battery life is TERRIBLE.
I carry 3 extra batteries with me on the boat and keep the rear displayed turned off once it's running. that cuts down on wasted battery life. with the Wifi remote, youll be able to turn on / turn off as needed. |

What interface are you referring to ? I download mine to my puter (typically in 720p/60 fps) and cut and piece all the work in Pinnacle Studio Ultimate. I can turn full motion into stop action, slow mo, sepia, B&W, invert, negative, back wind, etc.

Now I really don't know witch way to go. I have seen lots of great vids from gopro on this sight. Artie

The gopro remotes make it idiot proof. with the phone app its even easier.
The drift camera appears nice, but once you compare them its not in the same ball park. |

Interface, as in operating the settings using the two buttons and having to know all the codes in the booklet to set it up. I dont care what you say, carry three batteries? Thats ridiculous. I have the drift innovations hd170, blows the gopro away. Video is not as good, but its easy to use, I can see exactly what I'm shooting, comes with a remote, mounting is easier, getting angles is easier, the camera itself is waterproof (doesnt need a casing like the gopro), better mic sensitivity settings, 8 hour battery life at 1080, and a rotating lense! I couldnt tell you how many gopro users saw it and said f-it with the go pro
I also have a "cheat sheet" i printed and carry in my camera bag. I have also been using goPro's for the last 6 years and am capturing something on disk at least 5-6x a month, so Im pretty familiar with the settings and features. My son and I are into RC trucks and crawlers, snow boarding, skiing and mountain biking. So it goes everywhere we go....you never know whats gonna happen next. |
Thanks everyone. After looking at the Gopro 3. It looks like thats the way for Me to go. I think I will wait an get it for Christmas. Let a few get out there. An will be easer to find. It really looks like a nice unit. Thanks again for the help. Artie

http://driftinnovation.com/wp-conten...170-Manual.pdf http://driftinnovation.com/camera/drift-hd/ In my opinion.... and many others that have seen and used it..... it blows the gopro away. To each his own. I would sacrifice video quality for ease of use... thats just me. |
