Anyone Know who crashed in Muskegon?
 

I just heard that a 32' Fountain ran up on the rocks on Muskegon's south outer-arms. Anyone know who owns this boat and are they on this board. I heard that there are two huge holes in the hull where you can see the cabin. Anyone seen the boat? I will know more later, I am going to head out and check this out! Hope no one was hurt. :(

Mike, I found out that the owner, who would want to remain annonomous at this point was alledgally intoxicated. The owner claims that he wasn't on the boat and the it was stolen. The Coast Guard and Marine Patrol units were on the scene and the owner claimed that he was not in the boat and that it was in fact, magically stolen a short period before the accident. There was a fair amount of blood in the boat and on the rocks. The owner could not explain why he had several cuts to his legs and feet. My guess would be he got cut in the accident from the impact and then cut his feet on the sharp rocks climbing out of the boat. I also heard that he gave law enforcement a rather hard time and was not very cooperative either.

I am not posting this to slam anyone but what if that had been me and my wife or anyone else that this guy hit. I belive that stories like this should be told so that others don't make the same mistakes.

I have complained for years to the city commision of Muskegon that they needed to put lights along the breakwall like Grand Haven's pier. There have been three boats so far this year run into the rocks at night. This Fountain makes four. Two of the boats have sunk the others were plucked off the rocks by salvage companies. I will again reach out to the city officals and attempt to get additional lighting to the pier, But I belive that knowlege is power. Know the water your boating in and don't drink and drive.

I agree with the lighting thing. They need more lights on those piers. BUT, you SHOULD know the water you boat in. Charts show that peir system very well, as does a chartplotter. No excuse for hitting it, especially if you were drinking. That's just plain stupid. The boat next to Dave at G.L. Marina was supposedly being driven by an intoxicated driver also when it hit the peir and sank.

Foul, I dont' know if the owner is a OSO member or not. I don't know if the owner would post here or not?

How was the air fair. I didn't get a chance to do anything this weekend. The wife put a clamp on me and I ended up finishing some remodeling projects around the house. Ya know I cant go boating or anyting. :p

Air show was cool. They did their high G, full afterburner turns right over us. Litteraly!! Could almost feel the heat from the afterburners!!!

And feel free to go boating. In fact, I'll go with you now that I'm off the water for a while. :(

Does anyone know if insurance companies pick up the tabs on a crap like this. I mean, If I get drunk...pile my 100k plus boat up on the rocks..do they cover it? Who has to pay for the salvage job?

I didn't make it to Muskegon this weekend and I miss the action....oh well the buyer of my 30' Scarab did pay me off this weekend so I guess the stay home was worth it, I'll be back to Muskegon this coming weekend....Fred

Foul, I tried to call you on Sat. I saw you leaving Mona and I was about 6 boats behind you in the channel. I tried channel 69 but no answer there either. By the time I got out the channel, you were looooong gone. You sounded pretty good leaving though!!

superv and I took a ride out to look at it ....what a jerk!!!!!damn drunks anyway they make us all look bad!!!!the boat was white with a purple and teal stripe I think...around a1995 I would guess made me sick to see it ....

Most (if not all) boat insurance policies have "negligent operation" or "lack of reasonable care" in the operation of the boat, and/or "criminal wrongdoing" exclusions. If an owner/operator is convicted of a DUI, chances are very good the claim would be denied.

Even if they weren't charged, the "lack of reasonable care" exclusion would likely be used.

Does that boat have yellow in it also. There is a younger guy, mid 20's, that owns a 32' Fountain at the WHARF in Grand Haven. Its like a 93' with purple teal and yellow stripes. I saw him heading that way on Saturday. I have spoke with him several times, even partied with him Wednesday night before the Forth at the Wall in Grand Haven. I cant remember his name though. I'll call Jim at the Wharf to see if it the same kid. Midnight:cool:

I guess at noon today on TV13 they had a segment on the accident showing the boat on the rocks. And the authorities are going to proceed with a DNA test of the blood found at the scene and that of the owner/driver?. Hoping to proceed with several charges including filling a false police report and leaving the scene of an accident. Midnight

He's screwed if it's his blood. No driving ANYTHING for a long time. Probably some jail time too. Not smart.

Foul I just spent the last 20 minutes going thru 9 pages and I saw an ongoing commentary on your trials and trevails, glad to see it worked out. I left my boat at the warf for 2 weeks while i tested nearly every night, so after a run friday night to pentwater for dinner, i took her home for the weekend for a shave. 2 bottles of lime away later she's pretty as can be for her trip to skater for a tuneup this next two weeks. Wendsday heralds the return of the playboy for man can not live on jet sking alone. Besides no room for the ladies in case a festival pops up this coming weekend. NK:D
