I caught Steve David's Hydro flip in '98 on Speed last night...

I think they showed 2 of his "events" if not 3. It was a good show. Been there. Its hard to believe that we used to do that in open cockpits behind the motors with a parachute. Nuts.

Thank heaven for the advent of restraint systems, safety cells and F-16 canopies. There's more than a few of us that would not be alive today without the safety advances from people like George Linder, Ron Jones Sr., Jeff Neff, Ron Brown, Reggie Fountain and others.
When we take a minute to think of all of our Friends that have died in boat racing, you sometimes wonder how we survived our crashes and other folks, some in seemingly less severe accidents perished? Does lead one to believe that when your number is up, it's up.
The accidents I experienced on the ESPN show were from 95, 96 and 98. Aside from the structural improvements, I began wearing a HANs device this season and while I haven't had to test it in a severe accident, the system reduces head movement to such an extent that post race neck stress is virtually eliminated. Anyone who is runing with restraint systems such as 5 point harnesses please, please consider using a HAN's system.
I would be very happy to loan you mine to help you decide.
Take care, and thank you for being a fan of powerboat racing.

Steve-
We had a great time again at the Gold Cup watching you compete- thanks again for the hospitality in the pits!
We wish you the best for the rest of the Unlimited season- let me know what they find with your Lycoming issues (just curious!)
I'll forward you and the crew some pictures if I was lucky enough to get some good ones from the RoosterTail turn!
