Questions about a 2005 575SCI
Unfortunately my boat was lost to Sandy. Good news is I insured it for agreed value. I've identified a potential replacement. It has a 2005 Mercury Racing 575 SCI with 67 hours on it. What can you tell me about reliability on this engine and if I do buy it any preventative maintenance you'd suggest. Thanks for helping

superchargers on this engine sound like a PITA. requires premium fuel. Makes roughly the same power as a 525 EFI. (the 525 is underrated while the 575 is rated at 550).
Also... The blower is noisy If it were me I'd probably go for a 525 if you are looking in that power range unless it's a good deal. |

Great motor. Blower parts can be hard to find. I have 2004's. Also see if the thermostat housings have been replaced. I heard that they have been a problem

I love my 575s. Send the blowers off to be safe and have checked at least, if not rebuilt. Change the head gaskets ASAP!
I would rather have a noisy blower, than have my boat sound like a volvo penta, but that is just me. I love the blower whine on mine. They can handle 700hp all day if set up correctly. I was skeptical buying them, but now that mine are tuned correctly, they run like a full EFI set up! 525s are great engines also. The 575s have more potential if you want more power out of them. Stock for stock I would go with the 525s. |

I love my 575's......do a search here on oso, lots of great info on them. Like has been said before have blowers checked, and do head gaskets.

Love my 575sci. Anybody who says they would rather have a 525 has never ran with one. No comparison to low and mid range power.

Very strong bottom end and can easily handle 700hp. The blower parts are hard to come by, but if maintained properly, they will last.
They run fine on 89 octane. |
