Rare Breed!
Just got back from a poker run in Sturgeon Bay, WI. Met some other OSO'ers and had a great time.
A highlight was when Rare Breed pulled in. What a CLA$$ act (except for the trailer that looked temporary). Randy Scism and his mechanic accompanied the owner to make sure the boat put on a great show. I hit a high speed of 94mph, but felt like I was walking when they ran away in the mid 130's! If you haven't seen this boat yet, its a pleasure version of the Tommy Bahama supercat. Eickert 1100's, surface drives, Herrings, etc. It's has a full cabin and super nice interior. Not much wieght savings that is visible. One Smoooooth Ride.... :D |

I talked to the mech and he replaced the shackles on the center axle before they pulled the boat out of the water. The hulls are built someplace in Green Bay. Their top speed was 132 on Sat.
I have alot of pictures of most of the boats out there before the run and while being pulled out of the water on Sat. I seen more Top Guns on Sat that I have ever seen! |
Say What? The hulls are built in Green Bay? I thought MTI was all from St Louis are. You don't mean the trailer was built in GB, do you?
|
I believe all of the race boats and the pleasure boats with big power are rigged here in St. Louis and the smaller powered boats such as 500 EFI's and such are rigged at Fountain....
But YES the hulls are built in Green Bay.....  |
i sure fountain is bulding the hulls in nc that is where the molds are
|
I talked with him for a while. He said the hulls are made in Green Bay.
The guy that brought him the parts to fix his trailer was from the place that makes the hulls and he came up from Green Bay, with an air compressor and a large tool box with some new bearings (just in case he needed new ones, the ones on the middle axle were loose) and shackles for the trailer. Here is another interesting note, the dB level on those 1100hp only put out 82 per the water patrol, the did a test on them. |

Hello????? There are two sets of molds???
|
I never understood why they are built in GB and then shipped to St. Louis. Can anyone shed some light. Tbone, Shane?
|
St.Louis, Green Bay, North Carolina...whatever...that boat is the cat's pajamas!

Russ - Yeah the exhaust exits in front of the tunnel tab which is located beneath the "bussel" that covers the surface drives. When the boat is idling the exhaust is under water.
In addition they added two 2" diameter exhaust "relief holes" at the water line on the transom that reduce the harmonics caused by the below water exhaust. I'm sure the reliefs also ease starting as well. I really noticed how quiet it was when it left the confined marina at Washington Island. It was almost silent until it comes on plane and the exhaust is above water. Also, I'm not sure where the hull was layed or rigged, but the boat is still stored at the factory in Green Bay, then delivered for each run by the mechanic who prepares the boat. Wherever it was built, I'll trade even up anytime. Heck, I'll even through 'em a couple bucks!!!:D :D :D |
When I was talking to the guy, Mech, he said that they were taking it home to MTI in MO. The only problem he was going to have driveing home on Sun was that it is a wide load and most states will not let you drive on Sun and nights with a wide load, I think it is IL and MO. He left pretty early on Sun morning.
They were staying in the same motel as I was, the BridgePort. That is a nice motel by the way if anyone was going to Door County or Sturgeon Bay. Our room had a small wirlpool and fireplace in it, along with a king size bed. It also has microwave, fridge, small amount of dishes and silverware....They pools (indoor and out) are very nice also, the outside one has a waterfall too. Damn I sound like a sales person for them...sorry. |
Wentzville MO
Randy's place is in Wentzville MO. Which is about 45 minutes west of St. Louis.
|
Victory rigging is the place in MO. (636) 639-1166. Talk to Cherelle, Randy, Kenny or Gary. Cut out the middle men.:D
