Dumping water on 496 mag
I have a guy coming to pick up my boat tomorrow and just want to make sure I have all the water out of the motor. I pumped air into the system with the little hand pump and I heard the valves open and dump water, is there anything else I need to do?

Are you looking for this to be a full winterization for a winter's nap in MN?
If so, do not trust the air evacuation system for a winterization!! It leaves pockets of water in the system. There are a few dozen threads on winterizing 496s. |

There's a couple of blue plugs low on the block that will dump additional water for a quickie.

There are no block plugs to pull as the block contains Dex-Cool. There are two plugs on the seawater pump and a couple before and after the fuel cooler you could pull. I've pulled those plugs after using the pump and might get a drop or two out. As others stated no more work than it takes to run some A/F in I would not chance ruining a heat exhanger by just purging the water. Although, I know many people both in MO and IL that have never ran an ounce of A/F in the 496's and have never had a problem.

Of course I'm in the balmy south (Arkansas), but I still can't trust that the air evacuation system gets ALL of the water out of the cooling system. I still pump both mine full of AF for winterizing.

So if a guy were to rig a hose to a 5-gallon bucket and hook that to muffs and run the boat is that good enough to get antifreeze into the system? I have never winterized a boat before because mine always sit in heated storage, sorry for the ignorance. How many gallons does it take to get water coming out of the exhaust?

Since you have closed cooling and do not have to worry about the t-stat being open, you can hook up a hose to the muffs and run a few gallons of pink in to purge out any remaining water. If you've already dumped the water it takes a couple gallons before you start to see pink out the exhaust.
