We always wanted to visit that lake, how long is the lake and do they have a noise limit

Scagburner 12-07-2012 08:52 AM

Raystown is 32 miles long with 112 miles of shoreline. It is nearly 200 feet at the deepest area. It is an Army Corp lake that was built in the early 70’s for flood control. It is undeveloped except for two marinas and a few campgrounds since the Corp owns a minimum of 1000’ around the lake. There are NO speed or noise restrictions and I hope it always stays that way.

Nice vids...haven't been there since 88/89, looks like it hasn't changed much, maybe have visit this coming summer with the Cig... friends of mine always go up there and rent those 60' house boats for the week, they have a ball on those river ships....

baja27 12-07-2012 09:36 AM

Scagburner are there any spots on the lake you have to watch out for/ coves.
Thanks

Not really , most are tucked well off the running lanes . The only spot you have to come off plane is at the Entriken bridge , short no wake under the bridge . This is located in the first 1/3 of the lake .

I spent 3 years baoting on the lake with my Checkmate ZT260. Always started at the cliffs for the kids to jump and swim then went to "party cove". I just did not get there enough.....................good times and your video brought back memories. I used to enjoy sitting at the public ramp by 7 points and watch the arguments of people trying to use the ramp. I would spend the extra $15 and use the ramp at 7 points.

Like Sam said, it's pretty well wide open. It's fairly deep and no need to worry about hitting anything under water. You would almost need to run ashore to hit anything on the bottom. There are plenty of coves. Some ane quiet others not so quiet...:daz:

So are the big power Fountains ( 47 & 42 ) still running that lake ?

Remember hearing about those boats from the PA crew that takes overthe Pirate's Run.

Any particular weekend during the summer that has a gathering/event that would justify a trip down ? How long a drive from The Showboat ??

Kelly, the Fountains are still here. The 42' is running 1350 Sterlings and the 47' has the 1550 Sterlings.

Any weekend at the Lake is a good weekend. Perhaps we can arrange a weekend when the Williamsport gang is here. They usually make it here 3 to 4 weekends/summer but they're close enough they could probably make it anytime. It would take you about 4 hours from the Showboat and it's all good road. Let's set something up for next summer! :boat:

The only worry with regard to 'keeping up with' would be the Williamsport crew during the party portion of a visit there.

They go BIG !!:ernaehrung004:
