oil temp
had a conversation with a couple buddys today about oil temp, one of them said the teague hp engines run a max of 160 deg oil temp, both of my boats run 190 to 200 deg, what do you guys run for oil temp?

Oil temp
Mike,
I have had 2 sets of Teagues motors. The 1st set and the current set use both coolers on the bell housing with no thermostat. Never any issues with condensation and the motors show virtually no temp on the gauges. Bob does not use thermostats with his motors. I run the cold waters of Lake Michigan. |
Mine barely pull off the peg even in hot days, thought they were broken till I saw them move one day. :faint2:
|
Even running LOTO hot summer air and water my temp gauges will barely move. Heat kills!!!!
|
190* + - Never a problem with condensation in the oil .
|
i get 180-200 most of the times...one must remember that cold oil does not lubricate well
|
I see about 185-195 depending on lots of things, after a LONG run at WOT I may see 200-205, but I don't see that as an issue.
|
Mine run 180 cruising, 200-205 Firewalled for miles. No condensation. This is with the Merc HP Thermostatic remote filter mounts.
Before I had those thermostat units, Oil temp gauge barely ever moved. On hard runs, maybe 130-140, and took forever to get there. I would get some condensation in the breathers. However Bearings did look new after about 7 seasons on them when we tore down. I also run the Bellhousing plate style coolers. |
FYI, Mercury uses a oil thermostat, on the 600, 800, 900, 1075, 1200, and new 1350.

I'll be for real, you are "eleventy" levels above what most guys see for power, but that temp is important, where it's measured even more important. You don't need a bazillion dollar motor to know that. |
