You may want to look into haveing it Coast Guard Documented instead of a State Title. Sometimes it's a lot easier and cheaper. In Indiana I paid $0 for sales tax and only $70 for my regestration sticker. There is another thread that has a link to the coast Guard webiste for documentation

If it's a US built boat then it's no big deal. It comes in as US built goods returned. Just make sure that wherever it comes from that it has all of the proper documentation. You should use a service to assist you in this. We use Saxton Doc. Svs in Ft. Lauderdale. Ask for Sally and tell her that Terry @ Nor-Tech sent you. My advice is to be carefull and check everything.

We deal with Canadian boats on occasion. Call US Customs. You may need a Customs broker. You can't document the vessel until you have ownership!

Bob,

DO you know Chris Freihofer? He brought his Cougar over from England. Let me know if you want me to call him.

I happen to be an international freight forwarder and I did imports for 2 years. You'll certainly need an import broker to get the paperwork filed - if it's "U.S. goods returned" it'll be pretty painless. If the boat was manufactured outside of the USA the paperwork is a bit more involved, and you may have to pay duty on it.
If you need any help feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]
