planning a move

hi, my awesome lady is pushing for a warm weather move, and she has left it to me to come up with a couple of areas to take weekend visits to and check out later this winter. these have to be places where the boating season is far superior to NW ohio/lake erie. my question is where do you think is the best boating or boating scene between east coast (probably carolinas, NOT nutty northeast!), east coast fl, gulf area (any area from fl to texas, south fl, west coast, az/havasu, or any other areas you guys think are worth considering. we both work jobs that are pretty easy to find work in, in any part of the country, but economy and cost of living will definitly factor in wnen the final decision is made. thanks

I would suggest that you PM Twin O/B Sonic . He is a realtor in sunny Florida and knows the boating seen well there . Point of fact he is a transplant from Ohio . I am sure you two would work well together and be able to find a warm boater friendly home for you and your lovely wife .

Look over here in the Clearwater & St pete beach area. Homes are cheap right now, prop tax is low in comparison to NY or NJ.

Heck as I type this it is 76 ° and sunny. Boat in the Gulf too and you a quuck drive to anywhere in the state.

Coming from Toledo to Naples FL was the smartest move I ever made, I would not move back at gunpoint.

I might be alittle biased but I like the sarasota area... I have a condo in siesta key and you cant beat that beach anywhere..... The gulf is easy to get to and you have sarasota bay and tampa bay.. And you can also see the races there in july...

You might wanna look into Las Vegas/Henderson area. Lake mead is pretty big ,With great boating although some dont like the lack of bars/hotels on the water. Taking weekend trips to havasu is pretty easy for the party atmosphere , only 2 hrs away. If you want to do offshore boating you can be off the coast of california in less than 4.5 hrs. No state income tax and housing is very reasonable right now. If you happen to be in healthcare some of the highest wages in the country

I moved from Seattle to Henderson/Las Vegas back in 2008. Lake Mead is HUGE but as stated above it doesnt have the watering holes on the lake or any real gathering places on the lake and you have to be prepared for 110 degree days from Mid May thru Sept 1. Lack of culture there too....I moved in 2009. I love Vegas but not to live there.
If I were to move it would be to Florida. Cost of living is attractive, 12 months of boating per year and so much water--you will never run out of places to go.

+1..siesta key has one the nicest beach's on the west coast..the sand is like cooking flower..make sure you check out long boat key and annamarie island as well..if you plan on living on one of the keys just make sure you have 2 ways to get on and off,,it can get crowded id a hurricane stirs up..

hey thanks guys, west florida sounds like a good spot to check out. i have only visited east coast fl. for daytona bike week a few tmes, never been on the gulf. also never been to vegas and i don't know anything about lake mead. does anyone have any first hand experience with havasu, other than desert storm week? it looks really beautiful out there, but i dont know how it would be for living year round, it seems like it mght be a small area with not alot to do most of the year, but im really not sure.
