Aero-tek

I'd like to start out saying hi to everyone I'm new on the forum,
I have been Boating probably since 1993 on Lake Erie, I am looking at a boat it is a 32' 1988 Aero-tek (Yes the aero from Sarasota Florida) twin 454's,TRS drives, It has low hours it's mechanically sound and in good shape. But my question is I can't seem to find a value of what the boat is actually worth I was wondering if anybody could give me any more information.
Thanks....

kaama82 12-20-2012 12:33 PM

Can't help with the boat.

Welcome to OSO.

commandersander 12-20-2012 04:19 PM

Welcome aboard.....

20k? Pics?

FIXX 12-20-2012 04:31 PM

No name boat? I would say it worth between 10-15k

Dkahnjob 12-20-2012 07:12 PM

Welcome aboard. The TRS drives are good, but the transmissions can be a weak point. It could have either the MercTrans or the Velvetdrive. The Velvetdrives are ok, but the MercTrans is weak and tough to get parts for. The use Ford A Matic clutches, but the gears are not available.
Good luck with the boat.

Agreed, but being a 1988 I doubt the trans are the old Merc/Ford,more than likely they are C72 plug in trans that are pretty reliable up to about 550 HP.

The Aerotek is a pretty decent old school boat. At 20 K that's a little strong, 15 K is a better bet IF it's running and in good shape. Buy it for fun, understanding that resale will be a challenge, I've owned 5 Cigarette's, a Coyote, and a Sanger drag hydro. I don't regret any of them, they've all been a blast and a great learning experience. Good luck!

all I can tell you about Aerotek is they were built down the road from my shop in Sarasota and a very good friend of mine worked there for a while, in fact his father was a manatee county deputy and was the one that served the warrent on Bob Zanine. Bob was notorious for robbing peter to pay paul and on more than one boat ran out of resin half way thru and bought the cheapest stuff he could find to finish the hull. not saying they are all bad but make sure and have a good surveyer look it over.

looks like an excalibur 31 not an aero-tek, All the aero-teks that i have ever seen / been on ,have a fairing not the windshield, and different feature lines on the deck.

Captain YARRR 12-21-2012 11:02 AM

Despite being a no-name boat, that's a pretty sharp looking ride!

turbo rr 12-21-2012 05:01 PM

Doesn't look like an Aerotek to me...Also, I have never seen one with a windshield. Post the hin and someone here will help you out.

PatriYacht 12-22-2012 08:01 AM

Is it possibly an Aero? They were built in St Clair Shores Mi. in the 80's.

searaycer 12-22-2012 09:01 AM

It says AERO on the dash in the lower left corner.

PatriYacht 12-22-2012 10:09 AM

I always thought they were a decent quality boat. They were hand laid, balsa cored. They stood up well to the washboard water on Lk. St. Clair. 25,000 is a lot for an old boat that size. I'd start by offering a lot less.

turbo rr 12-23-2012 02:40 PM

Ok....it seems like it is an Aero. But I think an Aero is different from a Aerotek.

Yes Aero was a Michigan built By Jim Klym.
Aero-Tek is a Florida built By I think Bob Zanine

Some of the Aero Hulls where well built. Some not so much

wasnt there a 40 foot areo tec that was tied up at the holiday inn in spring lake? that one and this one look nothing allike.

Funnone 12-24-2012 09:58 AM

Thanks for all the help Guys im 99% convinced that it is an aero, now what I need to know is what is it worth:eekdrop:

machloosy 12-24-2012 10:52 AM

I think 10k or possibly 12.5 is about the right number if the trannies check out and the boat runs very well with no obvious problems. I would get a survey though... Just my $.02
