Wally,
It appears to be a “Fun Cat” or a splash of one. I had (2) of them at different times. They were built first in New Jersey by the Fun Boat Co. The design was a shrunk down 30’ Shadow cat the builder was Larry Wurtsburger. With a 60 Merc. Solid mounts, and zero feed back steering it was good for about 60 mph. I did one with a 75 and it ran about 70. That motor was a little too heavy. These boats were great in rough water; too bad you are not going to finish it. About the gas tank, Most of us who had them added a built in 20 gal. Tank in the rear. I don’t think they were built with any tank. Larry figured the owners would just use a portable one. Philip |
Thanks for the info Philip :D

Hey guy's the first mini cat was built by Cougar from England when they had there shop on 188 St. in NMB Fl.They were 10' long so they could be shipped by commercial carriers. I cannot remember the year I would say 85 or 86 is when they were building them, long before Larry!!!!!!!!!! Mike Nicholson

The "Cougar Cub" was much smaller, Quite a few guys here had them when they first came out. The larger Fun Cat was much more a boat. J.D. Delia and I rolled his Cougar Cub over one day, We pulled it up on shore, and emptyed the water out like a raft.

There is a Baja "Scat Cat" for sale near by. I stopped to look at it because it looked pretty cool. It only had a 25HP outboard. It is about 10ft long. The construction seemed pretty flimsy though. The deck was paper thin. The bottom looked pretty cool. I was going to call to see what the guy wanted just out of curiousity but didn't want to waste his time.

Wally,
Cool boat, I'd give you what you're asking if you didn't live on the wrong side of the country:D It would look cool with a pair of 50 Mercs on the back! I don't think you should have a problem selling it. Good Luck, Caleb |
I have a new mini hawk. Never Rigged. Has Rub Rail and lifting eyes.
|
I 'm interested. I sent you an email.

I wonder how she'd run with a 200hp "inboard" snowmobile motor? :D

We had a snowmobile that had a twin cylinder 200hp motor that weighed about 80 lbs. If you could figure a way to couple it to a drive I think you'd have a sweet power to weight ratio. Plus the sound of twin pipes coming out the hull and running at 8000 rpm would get some attention! :D
|
Hmmm.....twist the engine sideways....raise it up a tad so the clutches could work.......try and incorporate a wet exhaust system from a jetski so engine compartment temp would stay down.........AWE CRAP! Stop this or i'm gonna change my mind for the millionth time!!! :D :D

I agree, after having 3 funcats I know these boats pretty well, The idea of an inboard is cool. keeping the weight inside the boat, and putting some real HP in it would make a rough water slingshot. You should have seen the looks from other boaters as we passed them is real rough water, 2 to 3's at 60 mph. Remember this boat is a shrunken copy of one of the best rough water cats ever made, the 30' shadow.

Wally, could you imagine if you could incorperate the clutches? 4500 rpm SMOOTH holeshots and always running at peak hp rpm! WOW, that would be fun!!! :D

I used to race against those cats. One guy I heard eventually put a 140 OMC engine on one. The boat acted just like the 30 SHADOW. The hull's tunnel began to work at 80+.
The biggest problem racing against them was the barrel rolling in the turns. Other than that, they looked like alot of fun. |
LOL nice Sharkey :) :) :D :D
Best Regards |

put a nice jet engine in there and have your own mini JET SET 2 or 3 k for a 90hp jet best part is the engines dont weigh much |
I cant help myself.
How about a nice little turbo diesel out of a Camry?? 340 pounds and 80 HP. 15 miles per gallon or so?? heh :D Most fuel econo 55MPH boat in the world???? (You can hit me now) |

I already run 100 hp with a reliable outboard, so I think I will stick to what works for me.
I did consider taking a 2.5 Merc EFI powerhead and installing it on it's side. Choice of drive??? Ah, I didn't bother with it. The boat runs fast enough.......;) |
Mini Cat

If anyone is looking for one I have a 10 ft Cougar Cub with a 25hp Evinrude with a new Myco trailer. It runs about 30mph with me in it. Any one interested can E-mail me at [email protected] or call me at 954-270-2628

I use to race such boats with a 25hp Johnson or Evinrude in what was then called MGP (Mini Grand Prix)in the APBA/OPC devision. This was a class where most tunnel racers got there start if they did not start in Stock Outboard classes on there Knees. Testing with Speedos and a pretty TRICK Prop we saw speeds of anywhere from 45-50 mph. Boats such as the Cougar Cub, Baja Scat Cat, SKeeters and Grand Prix. The Grand Prix were more of a Sport C boat that we put the 25hp rather than a 40hp to run in MGP. It was alot of fun and a good way to get your feet wett in tunnel boat racing.
