actually I have put out a boat fire that way before. at the Sarasota race 20+ years ago. the bridgeports would tend to throw rods out and take out the fuel rails. that happened and the guys bailed out without shutting off the fuel pumps. Coast Guard guys freaked out, the local sheriffs boat and I did that a couple of times to put it out. works surprisingly well. if the guy in the video had come around the other way so the water had come over the stern it would have been in two tries.
