Getting ahead
Does anyone else seem like for everygood thing you do, you get three bad ones in a roll.seems like everytime i think im getting on the right path something comes up and screws it all up.takin its toll on me just feel like giving up, literally.
|
It happens, you have to move on. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I lost 23 brother officers on 9-11 and all would trade places with me in a second.

Happens! Just have to hold you head up and keep going. Remember the good and learn from the bad. Also always talk to the BIG guy up stairs.

I truly believe it all evens out.
Life is a rollercoaster, some people have bigger lows and then because of it have bigger highs. Many others don't have the huge lows but also don't seem to experience the big highs. I lost a son suddenly at 19 years old and a wife to mental illness. When people tell me I have good fortune they don't know the half of it. Its all about perspective. Everybody's problems, big or small, are big to them. Its all in how you look at it. Without knowing your situation, I'd bet there are a lot of people who would trade places with you in a minute. I remind myself of that every day. Optimism is a powerful thing. Most successful men and women have a ton of it. |
Wintertime in Oklahoma... no wonder you're feeling blue. :lolhit:

Take accountability for your actions What does that mean? Never blame anyone, always look to yourself. Learn from each situation and think what you could have did differently. Once you see what I am talking about, and believe it as well you will heal quicker and be more prepared to insure these things can't happen again. Think about it, without blaming someone or some thing! I don't know why it works, but it works. You make your own luck Wow, that guy is really lucky right? Probably not, more likely he kept his ducks in a row and did things the right way. When opportunity came along it fell into place because it had no other choice. "Why can't these things happen to me" Because you are doing something wrong. Embrace the things you have control of and be patient. Do not dwell on the things that you do not have control of, do not fool your mind into thinking you did not have control of things that in reality you did. Don't ever under estimate how someone became successful One of my pet peeves is when someone thinks the world was handed to a person that has financial or personal success. Sure it happens, but one can become bitter quickly thinking the world is based on luck. For me, everyone I have found in life that has LONG TERM success has had to work for it. Some have stories of sacrifice that I would never be willing to make. I sometimes witness short term success without the work ethic, and I have seen it crash and burn! Bottom line, do not ever give up the fight. Read some books and learn what all successful people have in common, and adjustments you need to make in your life to find success |
I don't know how bad things are for you but we've all had times when you're just not sure how you can get back on your feet but by God you just have to do it. You mention giving up. I don't know if you have any kids but coming from a 48 yr old man who's dad gave up 2 days before his 11 birthday, I can tell you it's not likely they will ever forgive you.
Pick yourself up, talk to someone and keep trying. |
1 with skin cancer
2 with job losses 3+ with breast cancer ...all in my little circle of close friends and family; including me. --Capped off by 5 deaths as well. Past year or two has sucked. But, there have been worse things than that to contend with... Sandy Hook, CT Aurora, CO Webster, NY Buck up. Carry on. It only gets better. Good luck and God Bless my friend. |
Here's what I do. I just DO it. Particularly when I don't feel like it.
1) I say the serenity prayer. "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." 2) I thank Him for the five things in life I am most thankful for, as feeling at that time. My wife and my kids, good health, a nice house, decent pay, good friends. |

It's life bud.
I am 30 and could write a sob story about my life from being homeless to losing pretty much my entire family recently. However the reality is people don't want to hear it. You have to find a way to tough up, wipe your shoulders off, and keep moving forward. Life is always going to toss you a curve. How you handle it and what you do to keep moving forward is what will count in the long run. Funny we like to quickly forget the high but will sulk and suffer during the lows. Keep your head up and know there is light at the end of the dark tunnel. |

We've all been there, some of us more than once. When I get down in the dumps I remember my most important blessings. Wife of over 30 yrs who still loves me, 4 healthy kids, and 5 healthy grandkids. It helps me to put in things in place. Never be afraid to reach out to family and friends for a heart to heart conversation. The first step forward was this post to your internet boating friends. Almost all of us here have big hearts. Stay mentally strong my man and everything will fall into place, God has a plan for all of us and won't give us more than we can handle. See ya, Kelly |

First, go out and get a mentor. Somebody that is successful. Dont do it for money... If you want money, give up now.
Then, you have to realize some people have a silver spoon upbringing, some people came from sh it, but no matter what, all first generation entrepreneurs get the job done. Dont complain, dont give up, just turn the corner and go with the next opportunity. Watch "Men Who Built America" painfully slow movie but it is worth every minute for the commentary by the entrepreneurs. Every single one treated failure as a learning opportunity NOT as a failure, but, a reason to make a change. Thats it... its simple. Points: -Success doesnt come easy, If you make $75K+ you are in the top 10% if you are at $100K you are in the top 2%. -Stop watching the NEWS, it gives you excuses to quit. -Put together a list of all the opportunities you can think of that will make money. Goals! -Wake up a 6AM end work like hell till 10PM everyday. Make sure everyone that knows you thinks you are the hardest working S.O.B. around. -Realize that TV makes it look easy. -Take risks -Watch war movies. Once you embrace the respect, sheer will and fortitude of soldiers who sit in a foxhole in a foreign land you might realize what you have isnt so bad. Here are two motivational videos, I watch them at least twice a week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBLV6...Mrq1eA&index=4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LccxeBMLibY Go kick azz. |
i want to thank you guys

Some of the comments on here totally nailed it. 4bus and Keith Atlanta are obvious examples, and I'd bet they are both successful guys - by their own measure of success - because they've obviously learnt the life lessons based on their comments here.
This is why OSO is my favorite forum. So many of you here due to the cost of owning these toys had to learn these lessons in order to afford our hobby. Its the only internet forum I've been on where I could imagine so many of you being close friends even though I don't know any of you. Go get after it johnnyboatman. Swing for the fence. |
this really is a great forum, here you ask for help, boat related or otherwise, and you get real honest answers. I have had it pretty good for the most part, but I did lose everything in 2005 and had to declare bankruptcy, I thought my life was over, but I managed to suffer through it, friends and my girlfriend (now wife) helped me along, and now with a lot of hard work, I am doing better than i was before, even though I have to work harder for it. In the middle of it I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel, but i am glad I pressed on and got back on track.
I used to see all these wealthy people and it seems like they are swimming in money and don't work all that hard. I am a contractor and have been fortunate to have a lot of clients, many of them very successful. They all have nearly the same story, started their own company, on purpose or sometimes just fell into it, and proceeded to work hard, and with time and hard work, sometimes lucky timing, earned quite a lot of money as the business grew. Some of them sold what they built for large sums and others are still doing it. When I spend time with these people, they are on the phone often, making deals and running things at all hours of the day. The consistent thing I notice is that they all work hard and don't take no for an answer. |

Been fight'n the good fight my whole life and while i am far from wealthy i am very much happy with my paths. It may sound cliche but enjoy every inch, every minute of the journey. |
Stick with it johnny. 2 traits most of us have are confidence and resiliency. My guess is a lot of alphas on here. We all fall on hard times. Some harder than others.
What makes a man isn't the problems that arise in life but the way he handles them. I went through a full reboot about 5 yrs ago. Doin ok now. Maybe get out of Oklahoma. Come on down to southwest florida. You saw Jay's pic right?:evilb: |
Hang in there buddy!
Always remember- "If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab our problems back" |
I just had my 34th birthday and in my short life I've had enough tragedy to last 2 lifetimes. Lost my wife and high school sweetheart at age 29, at 31 lost our home to a fire and just this past year had my new home flooded by Isaac. Just remember its how we pick ourselves back up and keep going that makes us who we are.

Just into the new year and by the end this will be my favorite post. I go through some down times where I question everything and can get depressed. I think we all do , some more than others. I have to remind myself that I am successful and know I have a great network of friends. My problems pale in comparison to the majority and I have to remember how fortunate I really am. Pick myself up and be the best person I can be every day. |
Most self made (not the silver spoon folks) people that I know had failed even several times before figuring it out. They had the tenacity to stay in the fight. If you want to read up on a very real life story of somebody on OSO, check out Gino's story. It has been posted on OSO before. He had every reason to give up on multiple occasions over the years. My son has a picture of Ginos boat on the wall in his college bedroom to look at when he thinks he is having a tough time.

Never give up
|
|
Some great advice from all on here to help someone in a time of need. This is how I look at things, you may have or have not ever played sports but this works for me. I am competitive by nature and have played hockey for more years then I can remember. I look at life like a game, things can change in the blink of an eye, one minute your winning the next your losing. So what do you do? you can give up and quite or you can dig deep and give it everything you got. What would you do if every time you went in to score a goal someone took the puck off your stick? would you give up and say I quite? I don't think you would, you would try to figure out away to get past them and put the puck in the net. Sometimes failing can be benefical. The more you fail the more you learn if you look at the positive and question everything that holds you back. Good luck to you bud, you can do it, I have faith in you and the big guy up stairs.

I have never met you but sometimes speaking with a stranger and letting it all out on the table can help. Please call if you feel the need. God bless Ryan, (248)854-1212 |
This one works for me
Called "How bad do you want it" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsSC2vx7zFQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbZnCGyPneo |
When looking for movies to view, how about giving "Miracle" a try, the one about the 1980 US Hockey team.
Three days before the 1908 winter Olympics began, the soviets beat the US squad 10-3 in NYC exhibition game, then the Olympics started. |
