Exhaust systems ?
Is CMI the only company to buy an exhaust system from, for big power
Like 800hp and higher? |
Stainless marine gen III, make more power than headers and won't leak. 5 year warranty n their setup.....

I'd think the major reason is that all the new high HP merc stuff comes with CMI and people don't know any different, so when it comes time to replace, they pick the phone up and call CMI. Second reason is they're not as pretty as polished headers. When you weigh the pros and cons it's a no brainier.
Pros: no leaks, longer warranty, make more power, cost less than CMI Cons: don't look as nice |

Make more power ? I have seen no proof of this other than maybe the Keith Eikert exhaust . There has got to be a reason you don't see SM and similar on big horsepower engines . Someone correct me if i'm wrong .
|
stainless marine will make more power on blower motors than any tubed header than are larger and flow better. The blower pushes the exhaust out. On N/A motors the stainless header makes a little less power than a tubed header, not a large difference. Have owned both and dynode. I was much happier with Stainless Manifolds

Yes so did the drambue boat the first one
|
I might have too do a DYNO test between the CMI and Stainless Marine, I spoke to Bruce @ Express racing engines and he said he would do it

Stainless are nice, I have them on my boat, but a tube header will have a nicer crisper sound to them. I also had the KE cast header they sounded great also, the problem with them is if you suck up mud it get trapped in between the water passage cavity and the exhaust port on the top upper bend, which causes them to melt thru!

Call tommy @ chief, I believe he has done the testing and the stainless marine made more power. A lot of the race boats run stainless marine and that says a lot because they care about making power, and reliability, not how sparkly it is when you open the hatches...

Stellings still has some stuff on their shelves that they will sell you, but they may not have exactly what you need. Let me know if you want to check with them and I'll put you in touch with the right person.

I think the reason why CMI came out with the Big E tops is they were losing business on the reliability side.
SM are a quality product but are butt fugly. I actually find them uglier than the cast iron manifolds. They are a great and reliable product though. If money is no object for me I'd go CMI E tops. reliable and good looking. Because I'm on a budget I'd end up with Stainless Marine :) |

I think people always leave that out when doing the pro/con thing. A true header boat always turns my head. The raspy sound can not be duplicated by a manifold |
Here's some info regarding power:
