According to Mercedes, it's a Top Gun powered by their AMG electric drive motors.....It's all over Facebook

Mercedes-Benz USA

Presenting the zero-emission Cigarette Racing 38’ Top Gun Electric Drive, powered by AMG. Combining the race-proven hull of the iconic Top Gun and the SLS AMG Electric Drive’s high-performance electric motors, this silent streak leaves nothing in its wake except the competition. See it in person at the Miami International Boat Show on February 14th and see more photos here on Facebook that same day.

Long overdue.

I often wondered why there arent more boats set up like locomotives with a diesel pushing an electric motor.

Some cruise ships and at least one mega yacht use this type of propulsion.

Interesting. Any guess as to what kind of performance that could possibly get out of this technology???

So they're doing a little more than just painting the words "AMG" on the side of a boat this year? WOW

Can't wait to see it in person Friday..

Interesting, I wonder what sort of weight difference there will be? Will it have a purely electric mode? if so battery life and weight?.

TBAG 02-12-2013 12:34 PM

Wow, can't wait for this. Interesting.......

most modern tugboats and pretty much any dynamically positioned ship have been using this system for 25 plus years,

weight is the major downside.
